Loose Network Connection

Recommended Posts

I have been having a problem with uTorrent for the last six months and have not mamaged to find a solution so far.

I've been ignoring the problem for a while but it has begun to bug me enough once again to try and find an answer.

I have a desktop and laptop, both running Vista. I'm on Virgin cable with my download speeds reaching up to 11Mb.

Teh broblem is that I can download torrents using utorrent fine on the laptop using a wireless connection however one day I became unable to download torrents using my desktop.

If I start a torrent download it will begin fine but then after a few seconds I loose my internet connection.

If I then go into the network and sharing centre I can reset the network adaptor to reinstate the connection. However within a few seconds of the connection is lost again.

Even when this occurs the laptops connection is undisturbed meaning that the problem must be between the desktop and router and not the router and the internet.

I have checked all of the settings I can find to make sure that those on my laptop are the same as those on my desktop.

I'm affraid that's about as far as my understanding can take me.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Daniel

I'm actually having the same problem so I can list my log as well. Do I just copy and paste the whole thing into my post?

Have you tried disabling or removing media/file indexers, such as Roxio's and Nero's?

I've heard ESET can disrupt networking...I guess it depends on what version and how it's set up.

Are these network-using apps?:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Pure Networks Shared\Platform\nmsrvc.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\IoctlSvc.exe

C:\Program Files\TomTom HOME 2\TomTomHOMEService.exe

C:\Program Files\TVersity\Media Server\MediaServer.exe

I have not tried to disable anything yet. Primarily because I only started having this problem consistently about a week ago. All of those programs have existed on my PC for quite some time now.

Those are network using apps and sometimes I do disable those when they are running just because.

The ESET I have is Smart Security 4 (4.0.314.0) which I don't think gives problems but who knows.

Sorry for the lack of posts following my original request.

I decided as I was having a number of other issues with my pc that I would carry out a reinstall of Vista.

I have a Packard Bell which had a recovery programme installed which carried out the reinstall from a partition on the drive. As always with these manufacturer installed programmes it failed and just stalled half way through the. Finally managed to download a copy of a Vista DVD using uTorrent on my laptop.

I've got a fresh copy of Vista Home Premium using my legit key stuck to the side of my pc.

Forgot how nice a clutter free pc is. I'm going to try my best to keep it that way.

I've just downloaded uTorrent and tried my first download. Worked amazingly well. Download speed went to the highest I've ever seen it go and its a busy time of the day.

Cheers

Daniel
