King Mustard
Enabling encryption helps with stopping the ISP limiting the packets (or something like that), yes? Well, will enabling it slow me down in any way, or stop me connecting to some? Perhaps any other side effects?
splintax
It won't stop you from connecting to unencrypted peers unless you turn on Forced encryption. So in short, no.
Dark Shroud
If anything it will speed your connections up. Set outgoing to "Enabled" and "allow incoming legacy connections" and you'll be fine.
spliff99
If anything it will speed your connections up. Set outgoing to "Enabled" and "allow incoming legacy connections" and you'll be fine.So why is encryption not enabled by default? Surely it can only be a good thing to have as many peers as possible using encryption.
Dark Shroud
I thought it was enabled by default. But I've been using all the beta versions so I don't remember anymore.
osm0sis
the reason for it not being enabled by default was stated by ludde as being "not enough people are using it yet," of course it's kind of contrary and self-fulfilling that by leaving it off by default there won't be a huge increase in the users using it, but a more gradual one.. and that was pointed out, but yeah, that's why i guess. Firon
it doesn't matter if it's on or not, by using it he means how many clients have support for it.
osm0sis
ah, i see. well the top 3 most popular clients support it now, does that mean it's time to enable by default soon?
Firon
I guess, but it's not really -that- needed to do so.
Kazuaki Shimazaki
Actually, IIRC, it had something with the way it connects. When you click enable, all the connections are attempted using encryption first. Eventually, uT catches on that some (most) clients aren't connecting and will try again without encryption, but there will be a delay and the ramp-up may look slower. Since one of uT's advantages is not "fast ramp-up" (that's BC, and they do certain ... urr things to give them this advantage), enabling it when very few people use encryption will create a slow-up, and the Speed Problem forum will be busted from all the posts. legumo
Encryption didnt decrease any speed,if anything the good thing is i feel a bit more secure andperhaps increased speed.also its great to see a user showing the E flag use it and be happy.
