Davyburns
Each time I start utorrent (build 22150) it reverts to the default settings. it never used to do this before I upgraded. is it a programming fault?
DreadWingKnight
Probably not.Does your user account have write permissions on the settings.dat file you're trying to use?
Davyburns
simple question - I have used utorrent for several years, and have never had this problem until the last upgrade to build 22150. I am and have been using Win 7 as an administrator and I cant see why write permissions would have changed
DreadWingKnight
Ok, better question, how are you determining that uTorrent is forgetting your settings?
Davyburns
because the max number of active torrents, and the location of downloaded files are default every time i start it despite me changing them, and it wont start on startup although I tick the box
DreadWingKnight
How did you update? What internet security software do you have installed?Have you double-checked the security properties on your settings.dat file?
Davyburns
I got a pop up asking me to update, as it normally does, so I did! I have avast free and threatfire. I cant find the settings.dat file. There is nothing except the utorrent.exe file in the program files directory
DreadWingKnight
Ok, PC Tools Threatfire is a known problem child here to begin with. And settings are stored in %appdata%\utorrent
Davyburns
Never had any problems before with threatfire, and just checked settings.dat and everything seems ok.Just disabled threatfire and rebooted, still the same
DreadWingKnight
Just disabling isn't enough for internet security software like threatfire.Uninstall is a must. And have you tried deleting/renaming the settings.dat and .dat.old to see if re-creating the settings works? Davyburns
Hi, sorry I havnt been on for a while, but I had to go away on business. Right, I have uninstalled Threatfire, I have deleted my settings.dat, and reinstalled utorrent all to no avail, and when I look at the securities tab on the settings.dat, it says Unable to display current owner.. I have tried to claim ownership, but it wont let me. Any ideas?
