krazieaznboi Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 utorrent doesn't always freeze. it only freeze on some torrents. is there any solution to fix this?
silverfire Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 There is. Unfortunately, there's so many that I can't tell you unless you tell me more about the problem.
krazieaznboi Posted November 13, 2006 Author Report Posted November 13, 2006 some files i download lags and freezes up my computer but most files i try to download dont. i also noticed that all my ram gets used but in the process tab, but no process occupy this memory usage. so i have no idea wat is using all my ram wen i run utorrent. this is one of the best torrent program i have ever came across and i hate to leave it behind.
Switeck Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 Overloads of some kind are almost always the cause, but like silverfire said -- we need a LOT more details before we can even narrow down the possible problem-cause.Ok, you say it runs out of ram. That's possible when overloading download and/or upload...or due to a very poor software firewall or antivirus/antispyware memory-resident software that insists on packet-scanning.
krazieaznboi Posted November 13, 2006 Author Report Posted November 13, 2006 i have nod32 installed, but i have already tried uninstalling it. it didnt work. and i have 1gb of ram with no other opened apps unless the apps r needed for windows to function properly.wat kinf of details do i have to give?
Ultima Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 Check for anything listed in the incompatible software list in the FAQ? Made sure your IDE/ATA/ATAPI controllers set to DMA mode in Start > Run > devmgmt.msc? Patched TCPIP.sys before, but haven't since last Windows Update?
krazieaznboi Posted November 13, 2006 Author Report Posted November 13, 2006 my IDE/ATA/ATAPI controllers are set to DMA if avaliable. i dont have any of those software stated in the FAQ except the router and i have never updated TCPIP.sys
DreadWingKnight Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 Just because they're set to DMA if available, it doesn't necessarily mean they're running in DMA mode.
krazieaznboi Posted November 14, 2006 Author Report Posted November 14, 2006 i cant set them in DMA. i only have the option of DMA if available
Ultima Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 Does it show current transfer mode to be DMA though for both the primary and secondary IDE/ATA/ATAPI controllers?
krazieaznboi Posted November 15, 2006 Author Report Posted November 15, 2006 the current transfer mode is not applicable
Ultima Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 For every single one? Device 0 and 1 for both primary and secondary? I highly doubt that.
krazieaznboi Posted November 15, 2006 Author Report Posted November 15, 2006 oooo. primary device 0 is ultra DMA mode 5, and secondary device 0 is ultra DMA mode 2
krazieaznboi Posted November 15, 2006 Author Report Posted November 15, 2006 i dont c how a router can lag ur computer but i have the linksys WRT54GS. the firmware has already been updated.
krazieaznboi Posted November 15, 2006 Author Report Posted November 15, 2006 hmmmmmm. odd. now that i have disabled UPnP in utorrent it doesnt lag wen i close the program but before it still lags after closing utorrent.EDIT: nevermind disabling UPnP didn't solve anything. also it uses aproximately 500mb of ram.

krazieaznboi Posted November 16, 2006 Author Report Posted November 16, 2006 i dont have a nvidia firewall.
Ultima Posted November 16, 2006 Report Posted November 16, 2006 http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=217252#p217252Give us a process list as I suggested StuStrings to do.

Ultima Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 NOD32 and Nero I wonder about. Can you disable the NMBgMonitor.exe? And if it doesn't help, can you try (temporarily) uninstalling NOD32 to see if it helps?
krazieaznboi Posted November 17, 2006 Author Report Posted November 17, 2006 i closed nero and it didnt do anything. and besides, if its a monitoring program i would lag for every download but i only lag in some downloads. but ill try uninstalling NOD32 as soon as i find the install disk.
Ultima Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 No, a monitoring program could lag for larger files if it's actually scanning the entire file... but whatever, if it's not fixing the problem, then I guess it might not be the cause of the problem (though I don't see the need to have Nero constantly running the background either, so I think it's best if you leave it disabled anyway, and keep it from starting with Windows if it does).
krazieaznboi Posted November 17, 2006 Author Report Posted November 17, 2006 ok. thanks. ill keep this in mind.
