Listen port 16880 (Both TCP and UDP port 16880 are properly forward on my wired router)

UPnP disabled

Global upload cap: 50KB/s

Global upload cap when not downloading: 2MB/s

No global download cap

Max connections (global): 300

Max connections (per torrent): 100

Max upload slots (per torrent): 10

Scrape, DHT, Pre-allocate: all enabled

Advanced:

net.max_halfopen = 8 (no patch, never saw the need for it)

diskio.write_queue_size = 4096

Port 39606 (Tend to change every few months... usually)

UPnP disabled

Global UL Cap: 42K/s

Global UL Cap Not DL: 45K/s

No Download Cap

Max UL Slots: 8 (Use additional)

Max Peers per Torrent: 70

Max Global Connections: 165

Scraping

DHT

max_halfopen: 8 (no patch)

write_queue_size: 16384

And, of course, added flame decals to my modem to make it faster.

Are there any +/- 's to having Pre-Allocate to 'True'? other clients do it, but it's no on by default in uTorrent.

The way I see it, pre-allocate makes sure all the data allocated is as contiguous as possible, while if i have multiple downloads using multiple programs running, I might have the two different downloads having alternating blocks of allocated space, which isn't too awesome. I do have Diskeeper running in the background, but I still hate fragmentation to death, especially since on a laptop, you really feel any performance hits on a 5400RPM disk.

i have a 256k dsl. my speed are so slow too. im getting 10-20s kb/s on very well seeded torrents. 30+ kb/s at best. IE download im getting 60 kb/s ez on good servers.

port 53456

enabled UPnP

global upl : 5

global dl : 0

global max # of connections : 512

max # of peers connected per torrents: 384

upl slots per torrent : 4

max # of active (up or dw) : 8

max # of active dw : 2

enabled scrapping

enabled dht

net low cpu : false

net. max half open : 30 w/ patch

ipfilter : false

everything else default

btw is it safe to play with setting during downloading?

i like to test write_queue_size but still download a large torrent.

also is there any good torrent to benchmark with. have the time playing around with setting feels the same.

any input. thanks guys..

@Pwnage: halfopen refers to Windows' limit on the number of connection attempts it trys to make before queueing them. If you have never heard of lvlords patch (and use WinXP) leave it at it's default 8.

@Rock: The fundamental thing you have to understand is that the faster you upload the better your downloads. It's not a direct relation but it is built into the core of the bittorrent protocol itself.

You are limiting your uploads to a snail pace of 5 kB/s so that's going to affect your download overall. Is your upspeed 256k as well? If so, change that limit to 25 kB/s.

You've got 384 max peers per torrent which is too much. Change that as per the wiki instructions I posted about.

Max active of 8 with 4 upload slots per torrent makes you seed to a total of 32 peers max. With a total upload of 5 kB/s you are giving each one 0.16 kB/s. Sh*t, I'd be really mad if I were one of them... But the protocol doesn't have any emotion and it will just snub you or chose other peers which again is going to affect your download speeds.

My max is 128KBytes/s in and 24 KBytes/s out. I generally achieve that speed as well.

port 13900

enabled upnp

global upl : 13 (16 when no downloads)

global dl : 0

global max # of connections : 192

max # of peers connected per torrents: 96

upl slots per torrent : 4 (auto more, if speeds are low)

max active (u/d): 2

max active downloads: 2

enabled scraping

enabled dht

net low cpu : false

net. max half open: 8 (I use win2003, I don't need the patch, but honestly I don't see the need for more half-open connections)

ipfilter: true (with a homemade block list of peers that I have traced to companies, with high hash errors)

peer.lazy_bitfield: true

diskio.coalsce_writes: true

Connection: 3mbps/512kbps ADSL (Actual speed 2.54mbps/422kbps)

Port: 5200 (UPnP Disabled)

Global Max Upload Rate: Unlimtied

Global Max Download Rate: Unlimited

Global Max Number of Connections: 300

Max Number of Connected Peers Per Torrent: 100

Number of Upload Slots Per Torrent: 10

Maximum Number of Active Torrents: 8

Maximum Number of Active Downloads: 5

--Advanced Options---

net.low_cpu = false

net.max_halfopen = 75 (patched)

diskio.write_queue_size 3000

These settings work great for me. I manage to max my connection around 315K/sec down and 52K/sec up. I also run cFosSpeed which allows me to browse the net without ever limiting my upload speed. Seems to help my download speeds on torrents as well while I'm uploading.

honest to god, i didnt know what result those were setting doing. i only started torrent less then a week. 1st use bitcomet and those setting were recommend to me from bit users.

anyway, i took ur advise, up the upload, use the wiki info and played around with the Queue settings. now im peaking around 45 kB/s. Big thanks "slayers"

now how about 'write_queue_size' will this effect download speed?

If your cache was set far too low, download speeds would crash, and µTorrent's memory use would slowly rise, possibly until your system was out of memory.

Hence, it's best to leave it to automatic, unless you can see for certain it's not working (ie utorrent is using 50M, or 100M, etc of RAM), in which case you should set it to about 4 times your max download speed in KiB.
