tom5 Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 I had a torrent in the queue but after I reinstalled the system it's gone. Is there any way to point to that directory with the files and continue downloading?I tried to download this again: renamed the old directory (with partially downloaded files) to allow utorrent create a new one, opened the torrent from the www site, closed utorrent and then copied the files from that old dir to the directory utorrent created but the progress is 0% (was ~50%) :/BTW: pity utorrent doesn't store the settings in its own directory...Edit: DO NOT make two threads for the same problem, and this type of thread goes in Troubleshooting, not General.
ScubaSteve Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 u should have saved the torrent file from your µTorrent appdata folder. its still fixable, simply download the torrent file from where u originally got it and then open it and point the save place to where the data is already stored. µTorrent will check the data and continue the download.
netwar Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 utorrent saves the settings inC:\Documents and Settings\#USERNAME#\Application Data\uTorrentusually on C Drive, and using 2000 or XP.. dunno on 95 or ME ... don't have it to tell you.. Also.. if you downloaded the .torrent file again, and just want to get and resume.. you need to point the torrent to the old (temporary) directory... renaming the directory will create a new one and will download everything again.. just run or open the .torrent and point to the directory that has the files.. and will start checking how much you have..Oh!.. and if you reinstalled the OS.. and you had 2000/xp and didn't reformat C drive (or the drive the documents and settings are saved) then just go to the document's and settings and you will have an old #USERNAME#directory there.. copy the directory of utorrent to your actual username... and should work .. netwar
Animorc Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 You don't need to store any files to be able to resume a torrent. Rename the folder to the correct name and make sure that the files in it are correctly named. Then you can resume downloading without any problems. If you have started the torrent and copied the half-finished files into the new download-directory, you will need to perform a hash-check on the files. To do that, rightclick the torrent and press "Force Recheck"
Firon Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 settings are stored by default in %appdata%\uTorrent, so if you didn't format, go to C:\Documents and Settings, look for your old username, then Application Data and uTorrent. and if you read the FAQ, you can make µTorrent store settings in its own directory. And for a torrent with a directory, you have to point it to the folder ABOVE that directory.Let's say it was saved in C:\Torrents\SomegameYou would point µTorrent to C:\Torrents in the save dialog. Also, since you were adding files to the directory manually, you have to stop the torrent and use Force re-check to make it check the new data.
tom5 Posted November 29, 2005 Author Report Posted November 29, 2005 Thank you all - it worked.Firon: I double-posted it by mistake - sorry.

forcedtoregister Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 1c3d0g, I don't see any solution there, if your link was supposed to answer my query. To clarify: I want to use a custom folder of my choice for utorrents settings files.
1c3d0g Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 Either %AppData%\uTorrent or the folder you stored utorrent.exe in, sorry. If there's another way I'm not aware of it... :|
forcedtoregister Posted December 20, 2005 Report Posted December 20, 2005 Ah, now I get it , I can place the settings files into the folder where I have utorrent.exe. I was being really slow minded, thanks for answering 1c3d0g.
