ThunderDawg
I have happily enjoyed using uTorrent for several years without ever having a single problem, until now. Since I "upgraded" to Windows Vista, uTorrent will not shut down properly and I cannot kill the process either. I have to either logoff or restart. I am suspicious that my ISP, Comcast, is causing this problem. But who knows, Vista is a real piece of work, I frickin hate it but have no choice here. The only other thread I found in my search here on this problem said to disable AVG mail scanner, but I don't even use an e-mail client, I use strictly web-mail (gmail) and my AVG mail scanner is disabled. Process Explorer will not allow me to kill it.Any suggestions??
jewelisheaven
How many utorrent.exe processes are there? Where are they running from? MSconfig or HiJackThis will tell you.
Firon
A HijackThis log would help.
ThunderDawg
Well, I've had this problem for about six months (since I went to Vista), but now, suddenly, the problem has resolved itself with no intervention whatsoever. Go figure..
Captain Download
I had a very similar problem and discovered that it was ZoneAlarm that was causing it. Uninstalled ZA and emptied the registry off all mentions of it.
Ultima
ZA's obnoxious behavior is borderline malware-like in my books.

ThunderDawg
What FREE software Firewalls do you guys recommend for home use?
jewelisheaven
I use my router. Searching here brings up Comodo or .. Outpost? I don't know which is free.
Ultima
Comodo. The free Outpost firewall is completely outdated (and isn't even that great).
