x289
If I increase my max connections per torrent to above 20, I will get a disk overload 100% message. My port is correctly forwarded.Settings that work(I can download at 20mbit/s with these settings):max # active torrents: 10max # active downloads: 2DHT: disabledmax upload rate: 500kB/salt upload rate when not downloading: 540kB/smax download rate: 3000global max connections: 60max # connections per torrent: 20upload slots per torrent: 8use additional upload slots if upload speed < 90% is enabled.Under the disk cache settings:override automatic cache size and specify the size manually: disabled.reduce memory usage when the cache is not needed: enabled.enable caching of disk writes: enabledwrite out untouched blocks every 2 minutes: enabledwrite out finished pieces immediately: enabledenable caching of disk reads: enabledturn off read caching if the upload seed is slow: enabledremove old blocks from the cache: enabledincrease automatic cache size when cache thrashing: disableddisable windows caching of disk writes: enableddisable windows caching of disk reads: disabledSettings that DO NOT work(these are the settings i will get disk overload 100% on around 800kB/s download):max # active torrents: 10max # active downloads: 2DHT: disabledmax upload rate: 500kB/salt upload rate when not downloading: 540kB/smax download rate: 3000 kB/sglobal max connections: 100max # connections per torrent: 30upload slots per torrent: 8use additional upload slots if upload speed < 90% is enabled.Under the disk cache settings:override automatic cache size and specify the size manually: disabled. (I attempted enabling this and setting the number to 1000MB to see if it'd help... there was no improvement).reduce memory usage when the cache is not needed: enabled.enable caching of disk writes: enabledwrite out untouched blocks every 2 minutes: enabledwrite out finished pieces immediately: enabledenable caching of disk reads: enabledturn off read caching if the upload seed is slow: enabledremove old blocks from the cache: enabledincrease automatic cache size when cache thrashing: disableddisable windows caching of disk writes: enableddisable windows caching of disk reads: disabledAs you can see, in the second set of settings, where I get the disk overload 100% messages, all I have done is increase the connection limit globally and per torrent. I was under the assumption that a 20mbit/5mbit connection would be able to handle larger connection limits. If this is simply not the case, please let me know, but I'm curious if there is something else because from what I've read, people who have their connection limits too high experience slower downloads, not disk overloading 100%.Other specs:intel dual core 3.2ghz.3.25GB of ram.windows xp pro sp3
DreadWingKnight
Your problem sounds like the IDE controller has lapsed the drive into PIO mode.Check the advanced tab of the IDE channels in device manager to verify. After that, if it's PIO mode (not the drop-down), remove the controller and reboot. If it's DMA, post a hijackthis log and process explorer process list. x289
I have a 3ware 9650SE raid controller card. The array I'm attempting to download to is a raid0 array. Could it still be the IDE controller you're talking about?Side notes:I am able to transfer to and from the raid0 array at over 100MB/s.The IDE controller is setup as DMA. x289
Ultima, your new settings worked to get rid of my disk overload 100% error. However, I now have a new problem, I'm not sure if it is related to this topic or not, so I'm not going to start a new post unless I'm told to.The new problem I'm having is that when something is uploading and I start a download, the upload will completely stop and the download will go. After the download reaches a steady pace, the upload will pick back up. I was curious if there was another setting I don't have set correctly that could prevent my upload from stopping. Here is a picture of what I'm talking about: Full size image: http://achumpatoxford.com/u/files/71/4d2b11b6a5a56244dee0252248f12ba1.png

x289
"had," meaning past tense? Meaning you fixed it or what?
Switeck
Sorry I wasn't clear enough.I too have a screenshot or 2 of the same phenomena as yours, but yours is a much better example.I haven't done anything lately that could remotely trigger those conditions: high download on 1 torrent with high upload on other torent/s at same time...as I don't download much.To trigger the conditions, I need a torrent that very rapidly pushes download speeds over at least 400 KB/sec while also seeding other torrent/s with at least half my max possible upload.I fully expect to still have this exact problem if/when those conditions ever occur again. x289
Ultima, neither can I. The site must have blocked connections from this site or something because when I copy the image location and put it in my browser, it opens. Not quite sure what's wrong... Anyhow, new link:Full size: http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/8712/newxn3.png
Ultima
Hrm. That looks to me like a possible disk IO bottleneck. Try not limiting your download rate, and try increasing the manual cache size by 2x (assuming you even are overriding it). What are your cache settings like now? What does the Disk Statistics section of the Speed tab show when that happens? (That must have become an annoying question to you by now )
x289
The original cache settings were at 128MB. I doubled it to 256MB and tried again. Same thing happened. Here is a screenshot of the disk statistics(1 second):Full size image: http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/6500/new2um6.pngHere is a screenshot of the disk statistics(5 seconds):Full size image: http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/8883/new3qi5.png
Ultima
:/What does speedtest.net show as your actual results? Also, can you enable net.calc_overhead in the advanced settings?
