Randillio Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 I am having trouble with an error message every time I try to download. The Error message reads "Error: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process". I have searched forums and other error message boards to try and find this issue and I cannot. This is a 2nd computer with almost identical software on it, and my other computer Bit Torrent works perfect. Nothing (from what I can tell) is blocking the program, and the message appears anywhere from 5-15% into the download. I've tried re-installing a fresh Bit Torrent file from the website twice... with the same result. Any help would be MUCH appreciated. I also have a screen shot of the error message (if it helps), but I cannot attach it here.Sincerely,Randy
DreadWingKnight Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 Post a hijackthis log please.
Randillio Posted November 17, 2009 Author Report Posted November 17, 2009 What? I don't understand what you are asking/saying. Nowhere in the FAQ can I find this issue.
DreadWingKnight Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=29748Did I say read my signature? No.
Randillio Posted November 17, 2009 Author Report Posted November 17, 2009 OK, well... anything useful to add other than what I have done already?Randy
Switeck Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 You've got hostile software on your computer that is locking/editing/corrupting uTorrent's downloads. You really ought to try what DreadWingKnight said...
Randillio Posted November 17, 2009 Author Report Posted November 17, 2009 But this is my 2nd computer with literally identical software on it. Even less software than my original computer that works perfectly. I will check the forums again, but I don't know if this is the answer I am looking for. Thank you for your post.Randy
DreadWingKnight Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 You have been completely ignoring my posts and following my signature so far.POST A HIJACKTHIS LOG!.
Randillio Posted November 17, 2009 Author Report Posted November 17, 2009 I am sorry that I am not familiar with what you are asking!! As I had mentioned in our first thread, I don't understand what you are asking/saying. What is a Hijackthis log?Randy
DreadWingKnight Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=29748
Switeck Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 It would seem obvious your 2nd computer has hostile software on it -- or software that for whatever reason is only sometimes acting hostile.

Randillio Posted November 17, 2009 Author Report Posted November 17, 2009 I am getting this error with XP, not Windows 7. The strange part is that these computers have the same software on them... maybe a newer version of Bit Torrent, but virtually the same with everything else. Maybe the new version of Bit Torrent has something in it.Randy
DreadWingKnight Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 Randillio: Are you even going to follow my steps or am I going to close this thread because you're being uncooperative?poprox: Disable indexing on your download folder in its properties and see if that helps.
Randillio Posted November 17, 2009 Author Report Posted November 17, 2009 Dreadwingknight.... I am not trying to be difficult, I'm trying to understand. 1st of all this situation is happening on my home computer (which I am not in front of, I am at work). I can do this tomorrow or this evening. 2nd... I am not so familiar with all the "lingo" people are using on these threads. Disable Indexing on what download folder? In Bit Torrent, In Windows? I am not familiar with this folder.Sincerely,Randy
DreadWingKnight Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 I have asked you THREE TIMES for a hijackthis log and TWICE given you the directions on how to get it and you STILL haven't provided it. That's why I'm having such a hard time with you. Getting information is like pulling teeth nowadays and I'm sick of it.The indexing comment wasn't directed at you.
Randillio Posted November 17, 2009 Author Report Posted November 17, 2009 OK... but you understand that I am referring to my home computer now right?? This is why I cannot give you the information you are looking for to assist me at this moment. When I get home, I will be sure to post the log... thank you.Randy
poprox Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 DreadwingKnight,Thanks for the help, but unfortunately it didn't work. I changed the indexing and restarted the program, but within minutes the same error popped up. Do you need another hijack log file with the changes or do you have any other ideas? Thanks!!
DreadWingKnight Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 Have you excluded your download folder from NOD32's active scanning yet?
poprox Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 It wasn't but it is now an excluded folder for NOD32. However it did it again.
Randillio Posted November 18, 2009 Author Report Posted November 18, 2009 Sorry... I can't do it tonight!! I've been called away for a last minute business meeting and I fly out tonight. I have to do alot to get ready. I'll post this on the 25th when I return.. sorry for the inconvenience and I do appreciate all the help and time everybody has put into this.Randy
moogly Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 @poprox: enable option in uT "append .!ut to incomplete files".And I think the culprit is Winamp and its media library trying to index media files.Another user met the same error with Winamp. So set Winamp to exclude the torrent download folder from indexing.
