Network OK

I have the same question. I have a new Netgear WGR614 (v6) router with port forwarding set up for TCP/UDP port 1720. uTorrent shows Network OK and I get great upload and download speeds, but when I do the speed guide to test the port I get "Error! Port 1720 does not appear to be open." I've tried that with both torrents running and all torrents in stop mode. Same thing with the port test at http://btfaq.com/natcheck.pl. The ShieldsUP! port scan at https://www.grc.com/x/portprobe=1720 reports the port is Stealth and not Open. Am i doing anything wrong?

If I only forward TCP port 1720, I am still able to connect to DHT peers and uT reports Network OK. If I disable DHT it still reports Network OK and my transfer speeds seem to be OK. I'm wondering if it's some of the built in router security/firewall settings that are preventing the port scanning sites to work? I did try to disable some of them but they didn't seem to help (I disabled its SPI firewall, set up default DMZ server, and enabled Respond to Ping on Internet Port). Just as a check if I delete my port forward entry for 1720, then I get a NAT error in uT. So something seems to be right but still I'm concerned if my router is port forwarding correctly...

I have forwarded TCP port 1720 only, disabled DHT in uT, then restarted client (upgraded to beta build 431). And while uT shows Network OK and DHT: Disabled I am still concerned that port forwarding is not working correctly (call me paranoid!). Here's why:

All three of these port scanning sites report port 1720 closed

https://www.grc.com/x/portprobe=1720

http://www.utorrent.com/testport.php?port=1720

http://www.btfaq.com/natcheck.pl

This last test reports "Fail! Successfully connected, but didn't get proper a BitTorrent client response. Make sure you entered a correct hash ID that corresponds to the active torrent on your system. Most likely, your network is properly configured, but repeat this test with a valid hash ID to be sure." It seems unlikely the hash ID was invalid as I simply right-clicked on it in uT and did a simple copy & paste. Strangely enough when I re-run the test I then a different error message: "Fail! Unable to connect. This likely means you need to adjust your port forwarding configuration, or there is no client running on that port."

I even made sure my wireless connection was on a static internal IP address outside of the router's DHCP range following instructions on portforward.com. Then I did more port testing on my other wired system on the network, with a different TCP port, but those always said closed from the above port test sites.

And as another test, Azureus 2.4.0.0 reports NAT error and I never get green smileys.

But again, uT *seems* to be working fine. But other apps don't. I'm just simply confused...

Important fix for users of Netgear WGR614 v6 router

In order for p2p apps such as uTorrent and Azureus to work correctly with this router, you must select "Disable SPI firewall" in the router's WAN Setup page. Somehow the SPI (Stateful Packet Inpection) firewall interferes with any port forwarding you may have configured, leading to NAT errors as reported above. I'm happy to report that I'm getting great speeds in uTorrent now. Frankly I'm surprised I don't see more discussion about this on the official Netgear support forum or on dslreports.com. I certainly hope this helps others out there with the same router.

BTW my router is flashed with firmware V1.0.11_1.0.7NA which is the latest official release.
