rothnd
Hello all,I recently decided to try uTorrent for mac (running on 10.7.5) and I absolutely LOVED it at first. So clean, so fast, doesn't hog resources like some others... However, there are 2 'features' I'm looking to figure out before I can make a full switch from Vuze.#1. I occasionally like to load torrents from behind a https style proxy (stunnel). However, when I try to load from link, like I do in Vuze, I get an error from uTorrent (I think this is because it requires the actual torrent file). This is accurate? Is there a way I can load from https url?#2. Blocklists - this is something I haven't yet researched, but is it possible to load blocklists in uTorrent? Thanks so much! Really hoping I can make this switch...
DreadWingKnight
1> if the link is directly to the torrent, it doesn't matter if it's http or https.2> You CAN, but given the reliability of those blocklists that are out there, they aren't recommended. rothnd
Hi, thanks!1. That's what I thought but uTorren doesn't open, I forget the error I get exactly but it fails. What I do: go to svtunnel.com, tunnel to kat.ph, right-click the direct-link, add from URL in uTorrent and paste that link. Doesn't open. I must be missing something. 2. Yea I'm much more concerned about 1 above..So, just tried it again. For some reason, I can't even install the "stable" release now. Finder rejects the dmg that downloads. It recognizes the beta one now though. Anyway, just tired to load torrent like I explained above and Add from URL (which is pre-loaded with http:// - no s) says Not a Valid Torrent URL....Also tried tunneling to eztv instead, using direct download link, same error... I'm beginning to wonder if vtunnel is restricting some access that used be there...
Andreasvb
Why do you use a tunnel to get the .torrent? It doesn't matter as µTorrent will use regular connection.
rothnd
I don't use the tunnel to get the .torrent. I use the tunnel to download what the .torrent contains, especially vtunnel with SSL encryption throughout the entire download process....
Andreasvb
So it's a global VPN, or a proxy you've setup in µTorrent?
rothnd
I'm actually not sure if it's a global VPN or not - it's a free service at http://svtunnel.com. I did not have it setup within uTorrent, but I did just try that (https type, located at https://svtunnel.com, use for P2P and hostnames) and the downloads work that way but I can't tell if it's serving the same purpose as the other way of loading. rothnd
ehhh, nevermind. the torrents do not download with vtunnel set in settings (restarted uTorrent and the settings finally took effect with a no-go).
Andreasvb
That site doesn't even exist. Also, if you don't use VPN or a proxy then it has nothing to do how µTorrent connects, it's not using that, at all. And, you're not protected anyhow. Don't download illegal things, if you want to be safe.I myself have never used any VPN/proxy since 1996, I've never felt the need or being paranoid about it. Andreasvb
Stable works here, get uTorrent.dmg I can save: http://download-new.utorrent.com/endpoint/utmac/os/osx/track/stable/You can enter any port you've opened in your router, I use 1337.Choose one over 1024 just to be sure.
