Of other software installed that might cause some problems, I have: Steam, Norton Ghost and Dell network assistant. But it doesnt seem to help..utorrent.exe use around 30 & of the cpu when i'm downloading at 2 kb/s. Surely there is something wrong with that? Switeck Posted September 17, 2006 Report Share Posted September 17, 2006 utorrent.exe using ~30% cpu even when downloading at 2 kb/s...sounds like a firewall/antivirus program reading every incoming and outgoing packet µTorrent is receiving+making.It could even be viruses/spyware/adware...despite antivirus software, the "latest and greatest" viruses and adware usually slip through undetected just fine.Can you get HijackThis and use it to post a startup list here?That'll show a whole horde of (probably unwanted) stuff running in the background. If you have an on-board audio chip I hope it is disabled in BIOS. You should stop CTDetect and CTsvcCDA from running at startup. Do i have to buy the ultimate troubleshooter software to prevent CTDetect and CTsvcCDA at startup or is there another way? I'm not a cpu wiz and don't know much about changing settings in BIOS. And another question: it seems a bit strange to me that a soundcard driver is causing my computer to freeze when i'm not using the soundcard, the dvd drive or anything like it at all. You also don't need UpdReg, all that does is check to be sure you registered your Ceative hardware. But driver conflicts can definitely cause problems. If your computer came with an on-board audio chip and you installed the Audigy card yourself please make sure you uninstalled the original drivers. The fact that the Sigmatel tray application is still running seems to be left over from an on-board audio solution.You can use msconfig to disable the Creative and Sigmatel utilities: Start -> Run -> msconfig, untick the entries on the Startup tab (CTsvcCDA might be on the Services tab). Switeck Posted September 19, 2006 Report Share Posted September 19, 2006 I use ProcessViewer from www.speedguide.net to kill processes/applications running in memory.HijackThis *CAN* remove them from loading in the first place...but is best used with caution -- and after LOTS of extra reading on what EACH process does. It's software included in the dell or windows media center edition. I'm not a computer wiz and a bit afraid of tempering with windows and its settings.
