jewelisheaven Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 I am aware it's not possible to do BOTH Process Explorer and HiJackThis logfiles relevant to uT, but could you provide the HJT log so there's some more context for your setup?:/ I wonder if indeed there is some previously unnoticed flaw in the ralink hardware? Is it possible to ask their support for information they need?
tsume Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 I found out the problem, and Ralink BETTER fix it.If I reduce the RAM in my system from 8GB to 2GB, it works flawlessly... NOT a long term solution though as I bought 8GB for a reason.Googling reveals a lot of freezing with >3GB RAM and Ralink hardware.I know my RAM is good because it's passed 10 straight memtest passes without a single error, and I've had 0 problems prior to this wireless card.
schigi Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 there is new version of drivers for RT257x/2671 (USB) - http://www.ralinktech.com.tw/Home/Support/Windows.htmland his release notes contains following lines:Driver Vista 3.1.4.0[RT2571W/RT2661]:1. Fix halting issue.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Still waiting new drivers for PCI-cards
PostItNote Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 Same problem with Ralink here - Vista x64 with 4GB, freezes whenever I access my local file share. I give up on wireless clients - they all seem to be flaky. Ordered a Linksys to convert into a bridge and will roll with that.
mitchboy999 Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 Hey guys,I had it on xp and it worked fine then i moved to vista. i have been having this problem for a few months so i gave up on uTorrent and went to Azreus Vuze. That fixed the freeze problem, but i got fast speeds only for bout hour or so and then the downloads just stopped completely. I tried to run the torrent in windows xp compatibility mode (right click on uTorrent, click proportys, click compatibility then click 'Windows XP Service Pack 2) and it worked fine. I like vista much better than xp but there seems to be alot of compatibility issues. Hopefully in a year or so they mite get the second service pack. If my spelling is bad or somthing is not quite rite tell me and i will try to help but dont blame me coz im just a 12 year old boy who likes his movies!Hope this helps,Mitchboy999Toshiba Satilite Notebook: Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 2.4 GHz: Vista Ultimate : 4 GB RAM: 500 GB HDD
tsume Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 I bought a new completely different motherboard and the problem still happens, further strengthening my belief that ralink needs to fix something.
norsk Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 Hi, I might have a possible solution. I have a ralink wireless card, 8 GB RAM, Vista 64 home premium, the latest beta version of uTorrent, and am experiencing crashes. After googling around for awhile, I came across one post that requested someone to go to Control Panel => Administrative Tools => Event Viewer => Custom Views => Administrative Events. Once viewing this they were told to look for an error around the time the crash/freeze occurred and copy/paste the error. The error that occurred for me wasLog Name: SystemSource: TcpipDate: 5/11/2008 10:37:38 PMEvent ID: 4226Task Category: NoneLevel: WarningKeywords: ClassicUser: N/AComputer: JensPCDescription:TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts.Event Xml:<Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> <System> <Provider Name="Tcpip" /> <EventID Qualifiers="32768">4226</EventID> <Level>3</Level> <Task>0</Task> <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2008-05-12T05:37:38.533Z" /> <EventRecordID>63301</EventRecordID> <Channel>System</Channel> <Computer>JensPC</Computer> <Security /> </System> <EventData> <Data> </Data> <Binary>00000000010000000000000082100080000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000</Binary> </EventData></Event>So I assume the problem is with the number of connections that uTorrent is making. I do not know what the magic number is yet, but I can only assume that by reducing the number of connections that your client is making will help solve the problem. I am also experiencing crashes when playing World of Warcraft, and I am unsure if it is related. As of writing this I have just remembered WoW has a bittorent background downloader that is activated while the game is running, so possibly if I disable this the crashes will go away. Let me know if this has helped anyone in solving this mess. Cheers.I have just come across this article which describes a problem with Vista and its ability to handle numerous TCP connections. The number seems to vary by edition http://torrentfreak.com/optimize-vista-for-bittorrent-emule-p2ptv/
Firon Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 Did you even read the thread? That has nothing to do with it.The ralink drivers are buggy.
norsk Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 I did read the thread but saw no mention of this suggestion.
schigi Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 Just for info, currently I use Debian Lenny installed on VMware as temporary workaround .
jewelisheaven Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 Firon is talking about http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=321458#p321458 post #53 here. If you're not affected by that chipset check for an update, or write to their support to tell them it's not an isolated incident... lots of ram + their current drivers = bad things happen
norsk Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 Thank you. I saw all of that and just thought I might have found an alternative solution for the situation. My computer only crashes when I do certain things, so although the Ralink drivers are buggy and it is not compatible with lots of RAM and vista atm, I thought perhaps this solution would offer some relief. I have also discovered that my computer will freeze whenever I try to use itunes to play its playlist over the network, so I will see if any advantages can be gained from disabling looking for and sharing content in itunes, as well as disabling all usage of P2P on the computer.
tsume Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 Hey, I got a new driver sent to me from Ralink. It fixed my problem!!!EDIT: RALINK HAS RELEASED THE NEWEST DRIVER TO THEIR SITE FOR RT286XI also have a newer XP driver, ask and ye shall receive I'm pretty sure only Vista had the freezing issue, however.
jewelisheaven Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 Could you list your chipset.. It appears it's only for the RT2860 line? Lots of vendor IDs though So I'm hopeful for all you guys
norsk Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 Well I only have a month left in this house so I just ran a long Ethernet cord to my computer and hopefully that will solve my issues for now. I didn't physically take out the ralink card but I disabled it in the device manager so hopefully that should be all I need to do.
tsume Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 The driver I posted above is for the RT2860 line of cards. I downloaded the ubuntu dvd torrent as well as a fedora torrent and seeded all night, no freeze! Normally it would have frozen in under a minute. If you have a different card with the same issue, try to email FAE@ralinktech.com.tw for help. They were pretty good to me.
DOStradamus Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 I run Server 2008, and have a similar problem:From time to time, the program will "stall", and, after a few moments, it resumes.I've looked at what's running, and have narrowed it down to a specific thread freezing While it is locked, it's in "Wait: Executive" state, and stays that way until the exact time utorrent starts back up.pstat.exe (from the '02 server Plat SDK) gives a nice, quick picture of what's going on.========================================================================** ALL NORMAL **pid:8a0 pri: 8 Hnd: 254 Pf: 8967 Ws: 14296K utorrent.exe tid pri Ctx Swtch StrtAddr User Time Kernel Time State c3c 10 93722 00000000 0:00:00.858 0:00:02.776 Wait:UserRequest 440 11 28813 77A69168 0:00:02.184 0:00:00.670 Wait:UserRequest a10 11 127 77A69168 0:00:00.000 0:00:00.000 Wait:UserRequest a18 10 423516 77A69168 0:00:02.106 0:00:05.959 Wait:UserRequest a0c 10 24 77A69168 0:00:00.000 0:00:00.000 Wait:UserRequest 564 13 325 77A69168 0:00:00.000 0:00:00.000 Wait:EventPairLow** LOCKED UP **pid:8a0 pri: 8 Hnd: 234 Pf: 9684 Ws: 12824K utorrent.exe tid pri Ctx Swtch StrtAddr User Time Kernel Time State c3c 10 96343 00000000 0:00:00.904 0:00:02.792 Wait:UserRequest 440 11 35720 77A69168 0:00:02.839 0:00:00.733 Wait:UserRequest a10 11 140 77A69168 0:00:00.000 0:00:00.000 Wait:UserRequest a18 10 546620 77A69168 0:00:02.542 0:00:07.519 Wait:Executive a0c 10 24 77A69168 0:00:00.000 0:00:00.000 Wait:UserRequest 564 13 359 77A69168 0:00:00.000 0:00:00.000 Wait:EventPairLow========================================================================I note curiously, that when I run XPSP2 in and MS-VPC box, it locks there, too!Add to that, the fact that the problem appeared when I upgraded (Asus P5N-E/3GHz E6850/4GB RAM), it looks like a driver somewhere is screwing things up == and not the NIC I use to connect to the public 'Net - same pci card as the old box (the GB NIC onboard is used for local networking)So, here's what I'll do...1. I'll see how it behaves whem I'm booted directly into XP SP2 on this box2. If no probs there, I'll set up a "fresh" load of 2k8 server, loading only the NIC driver I need toaccess the 'Net... and test...I expect that to work, so:3. Add drivers one-at-a-time. "you also know the drill"...*** HEY! Any hardware that we mmight have in common? MOBO make/model, specifically.. I have a hunch.-NK
jewelisheaven Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 Search for server 2008.. this sounds familiar.
schigi Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 2tsumeThank you very much!!! Seems to that this drivers works fine. At Least for my system PS: my card is Edimax EW-7728In.
norsk Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 I'm using a Gigabyte DS3L mobo and a Q6600 CPU if it matters at all. My card is the EW-7128G (RT61 chipset)
jewelisheaven Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 It would be helpful I think for all those affected to maybe even reference this thread when writing to RALink support thanking them for updating drivers
norsk Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 They sent me updated drivers and they work! http://www.mediafire.com/?e1xhwaymdsfThey work at least for the EW-7128G (RT61 chipset) card
Tommy00 Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 I am experiencing the same problem using vista x64, linksys wmp54g 4.1 (which is RT61), 4gb RAM.Some of my applications are 100% guaranteed to make my pc freeze, whereas when i disable the device it won't happen. Utorrent sometimes freezes when i start a torrent, however when it has been going for a few minutes it won't anymore.I tried the drivers norsk submitted which seem a bit more recent (v2.1.2.0 dated 10-03-2008), but it doesn't solve the problem for me.Has anyone found a way to fix this issue yet? Or is it an idea to contact Ralink for this?
jewelisheaven Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 Indeed norsk posted RT61 ; tsume posted RT2860. If they don't work, when you contact RALink you can tell them that you tried those versions, but be sure it's a hardware problem. Have you eliminated other http://utorrent.com/faq.php#Incompatible_software as a possible cause along similar lines as other users here?
