aaon
Ponder this. Make an option that lets peers download in reverse. So they get the last bit from the seeds first. Then if all the seeds dies the reverse peers can download from regular peers and regular peers can download from reverse peers. Reverse peers would act like seeds for regular peers and regular peers would act like seeds for reverse peers.
madhouserevival
I think there is a setting in utorrent that allows you to download the last bit first, but I can't recall which setting it is. Sure the admin knows the answer.
Honeyfrog
I've requested this, as well as an improved derivation.
Firon
This request makes NO sense.
madhouserevival
It makes sense to download the last piece first if you want to find out if the torrent is a fake (only 99% complete). And uttorent does have this setting. It's called prioritizing individual files. I know how on private trackers, everyone gets the files fast and you can come in late on the torrent and not collect enough peers to maintain your ratio because the torrent has run its course with the downloaders. A trick for me is to download the last and first 1/3 first, then prioritize the 2nd 1/3 of the torrent, thereby catching the mainstream peers before they disappear. Hope that's not too confusing. Ultima
No, it still doesn't make sense, because the last piece left to be downloaded is NOT necessarily the last piece in the torrent. Skewing the piece distribution from two ends doesn't make it any better than skewing it from one end.
hermanm
The feature is called Initial-Seeding (aka super seeding). Its already in uTorrent.
madhouserevival
As I've had it explained to me, Superseeding/initialial seeding shares a piece with a peer, then waits for that peer to share before sending the next piece. Not a fast way to upload, from what I understand, but a nice way to avoid gathering peers that hit and run.
DreadWingKnight
Downloading preferences are already rarest first.Super-seed forces a rarest-first upload order.Preferencing any other piece order to compensate for 1->end or end->1 preferencing just won't work.
