schnurlos
They don't stop your freedom, they just save their bandwith. So your ways are: if you are male and the admin of the network is female - a nice dinner can help you.If he is a guy ... that's your problem now
hermanm
get yourself a seedbox and ftp/sftp your files from the seedbox. I wonder if the university would allow a university tracker!

jewelisheaven
>< Blasphemy! There's a reason the uni decided to hamper/block this type of traffic. Either it's for policy or liability reasons. Sure the bandwidth is a help too, but unless they block youtube and other streaming sites it's not likely the HIGHEST reason for doing so.If you know someone, a buddy-of-a-buddy who works for their IT, ask them what you can do about it. Additionally many campuses I have heard offer LAN file servers... such that popular content is mirrored on a local node which keeps traffic from being counted in their multi-petabyte quota. It's also likely in that scenario you will not have troubles with a tracker if that's how they keep track of data going over the LAN
Lord Alderaan
Trying to circumvent uni shaping/blocking is a sure way to completely lose your internet connection. They usually aren't idiots and also if they cut you off because of your antics there usually is no alternative.Hence the best way is the official way. Ask the IT department if they can enable/speed up BitTorrent (for you). I know there isn't much hope though, especially if they are blocking BitTorrent completely (instead of limiting traffic). Oh and you better have a valid/legal use for it
