BitTyrant
For some reason, yesterday, utorrent stopped opening from taskbar. I didn't install any new programs or do anything unusual. Checked Task Manager, showed CPU usage at 100% from utorrent.exe. Checked the FAQ, seems some firewalls do this, but I have no software firewall installed.I DL'd and ran process explorer. Under the threads tab it shows TID 4052 is using all the CPU. All the threads showing are:4052234436603916All are related to utorrent.exe from what I can see.DPCs in main screen shows 0% CPU usage for DPCs.Any idea what could be causing this? I tried spyware scans with updated def's (Ad-Aware, Spybot, AVG) and all they found were a few tracking cookies. No change once they were removed.I even went so far as to try azureus, which I normally don't use, and it worked fine. I would love to get this fixed. Is there anything else I can check? BitTyrant
Is this what you're looking for? I got it from the Threads tab. This is from the TID that is causing the CPU to be at 100%.ntoskrnl.exe+0x1da6bhal.dll!HalClearSoftwareInterrupt+0x313utorrent.exe+0x10d8dutorrent.exe+0x5bfdutorrent.exe+0x18e14utorrent.exe+0x19100utorrent.exe+0x195eeutorrent.exe+0x1aaceutorrent.exe+0x16942utorrent.exe+0x17526kernel32.dll!RegisterWaitForInputIdle+0x43

Firon
Can you go into AVG's configuration and remove and re-add any exceptions? Also, does killing the process and restarting help?
BitTyrant
I've killed and restarted utorrent.exe many times now. No effect. Goes right back to 100% as soon as it restarts. I have done a few system restarts as well.I closed AVG after the scan, I'm just using the free version. I have no exceptions set.
Firon
Go into %AppData%\uTorrent and remove all the .dat and .old files, I guess.
BitTyrant
Tried that. Restarted utorrent.exe. Right back to 100% CPU again. It seems to drop back down for about 30 seconds while the program checks to see if .torrent files are associated. I can view the program while the confirmation window is up. Once I click No (to associate the files), it hammers my CPU again and the program locks up.
Greg Hazel
You can cause uTorrent to crash and generate a dump file. That will let me inspect what it was doing at the time of the crash.Go to the Logger tab, open the right-click menu and hold Control while selecting "Dump Memory Info". Find the resulting dump file it creates (probably in C:\Program Files\uTorrent) and post it on http://www.mediafire.com
BitTyrant
Can't get it to crash. I can't even get it to open. I can see the system tray icon, but it doesn't open when I click it. Can't right click, either. Although, the status bar comes up when I hover over it, and it shows the 2 torrents I had active when it started acting this way. BitTyrant
Didn't realize there was a beta available. I DL and tried it. Seems to be working. I'll post again if I have any new problems. Thanks to all who posted on this thread. The support I received for this issue was impressive to say the least.uTorrent is by far the best program out there for bittorrent. Keep up the great work. Greg Hazel
Looking at the dump file, the process was spending a lot of time inserting IPs it got from a tracker response. If you continue having trouble, a Wireshark capture of the tracker communication would be helpful.
