tCm
Hi!I recently uninstalled NortonAV in favour for ClamWin.Now I'm wondering if anyone know what to do after CW finds viruses. In pref's, you've got three options,*Report only - Seem pretty useless. If I got viruses, I'd like them removed.*Remove (Use carefully) - "Use Carefully"? sounds dangerous!* Move to quarantine folder - Does it make any difference to put threat in a different folder?I'm gratfull for all replies,tCm
Firon
It's probably safer to move to the quarantine folder automatically, then manually remove entries yourself later after making sure it's not some critical system file or something. tCm
Ok, but if it's a nasty virus, will it not mess up my pc from the quarentine folder? Here's the report I got:--------------------------------------Scan started: Mon Feb 13 15:47:04 2006ERROR: Can't open file C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\DEFAULTERROR: Can't open file C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\SECURITYERROR: Can't open file C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\SOFTWAREERROR: Can't open file C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\SYSTEMERROR: Can't open file C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\SAMERROR: Can't open file C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\sptd5453.sysERROR: Can't open file C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\sptd.sysERROR: Can't open file C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\dtscsi.sysERROR: Can't open file C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\EventCache\{952EE941-0387-4F3B-90F6-D074390A5C02}.binC:\Documents and Settings\Lawrence San\Lokala inställningar\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\05IN8TEN\pacificpoker[1].exe: Adware.Casino-4 FOUNDC:\Documents and Settings\Lawrence San\Lokala inställningar\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\YZEVYT6Z\s13[1].htm: Exploit.MS05-013 FOUNDC:\FOUND.002\FILE0003.CHK: Trojan.Agent.AY FOUNDC:\FOUND.002\FILE0008.CHK: Trojan.Agent.AY FOUNDC:\FOUND.002\FILE0018.CHK: Adware.Gator-1 FOUNDC:\FOUND.002\FILE0026.CHK: Adware.Gator-3 FOUND-- summary --Known viruses: 45343Engine version: 0.88Scanned directories: 2318Scanned files: 45937Infected files: 6Data scanned: 8535.21 MBTime: 3314.774 sec (55 m 14 s)--------------------------------------/tCm
1c3d0g
A quarantine folder is supposed to isolate the virus/worm/trojan safely from the rest of the PC until you decide what to do with it. Do you recognize any file there that you think is important to you? If not, delete them right away.
splintax
Well, I don't know, a lot of users wouldn't recognize explorer.exe or other important system files..

The Mighty Buzzard
Viruses don't tend to be dangerous unless you cause them to execute. Anything trying to automaticly execute an infected file will tend to be thwarted by it not being where it's expected, much like any other program. Just don't go trying to run anything in your quarentine folder and you should be ok.On a side note, why are you still using fat32?
tCm
On a side note, why are you still using fat32?It's funny you should mention it because I didn't realize it untill today! When I was doing a defragmentation.I bought the computer secondhand. Windows and some other crap was allready installed. Now I don't have energy to format and re-install everything again.Reguarding WinClam:Thanks for all help. I decided to also use Kaspersky in adition to WinClam. Works nice. I guess anything is better than Norton.../tCm
Ultima
Uh... KAV? Or do you mean KAH? If it's KAV, then I'll warn you that having two antivirus softwares, no matter how safe it sounds, might cause more problems than help... slow downs and incompabilities. Firon
ClamWin, not WinClam
tCm
@Firon: Yes, I ment ClamWin.@Ultima: I don't think so since ClamWin is an on demand AV software. I use it as an aditional check on downloaded files.
