flashx80
When I first downloaded the torrent file, everything was fine. I tried to mess around the Connection, Bandwidth, Queueing, and Advanced to speed up the downloading and it ended up with Connecting to Peers. Then at the middle of the night after I took a short nap, the torrent file was able to download. I waited for about 15 minutes to see if it still download, then I shut down my computer and hoping that it will work the next morning. The following morning I opened the uTorrent and it showed Check (#), then about couple minutes later Connecting to Peers. How do I fix this problem? flashx80
How do I fix this problem?Don't shutdown your computer while uTorrent is still running. It's too late now. It's going to take hours or days to download the file and I don't want to leave my computer on for so long
ciaobaby
If you "need" something so quickly I suggest using Amazon's Prime delivery service.Failing that wait until uTorrent has closed COMPLETLY before powering down.
flashx80
I never said I need it right away. I said I don't want to run the computer for so long. Anyways how can I fix the connecting to peers problem?
ciaobaby
You can't! If peers are not there or do not connect, you cannot make them, all you can do is have your client running when peers or seeds are online and connectable, and if that takes a week, a month or a year that's just the way it is. flashx80
You mean it depends on my internet connection? My internet is slow, is that why it couldn't connect to peers? If I move to different location with higher internet speed, would it be able to connect to peers?
ciaobaby
No,No,Probably not.
flashx80
Okay, I'm not sure what do you mean then
ciaobaby
What YOU DO has no bearing on whether peers connect and start sending pieces, it is up to the other peers to send pieces that your client is requesting.
flashx80
Even if I changed Connection, Bandwidth, Queueing, and Advanced it has nothing to do with Connecting to Peers? But whether it is up to the peers to send me the pieces that allows me to download? What if download a different torrent file? Would that allow me to download? Is it only me or does it happen to anyone who is using the torrent file?
Andreasvb
It can happen to anyone, as you need someone to connect to.And if everyone starts shutting down their computers there would be no peers, ever.
flashx80
Does that have anything to do with seeds? If there are more seeds there will be more peers to connect?
DreadWingKnight
Seeds are, by definition, peers with 100% of all pieces.More seeds doesn't necessarily mean more speed.
flashx80
Let me get this straight. In order to connect to peers, you must have someone from the other side who is also downloading the same torrent file in order to download it? If no one downloading the file, then I can't download it myself?
flashx80
Why I was able to download before I changed Connection, Bandwidth, Queueing, and Advanced?
Andreasvb
Try the change them back to the same it was and see if it works better then.

No If no one downloading the file, then I can't download it myself? No but SOMEBODY MUST be online with the pieces you need.BitTorrent is called "Peer to Peer" because there is NO central server with the torrents, there are only peers that may or may not have the complete torrent.Read the "Dummies Guide to BitTorrent" so you have a bit more of a clue to how it works. flashx80
Looks like I'm able to download the torrent. One last question. Anyway to increase the downloading speed?
Andreasvb
Not likely. What's your connection speed and how fast are you downloading now?
flashx80
It's back to connection to peers. When it is back to downloading, do you want both down and up speed?
Andreasvb
Yes, please. You can also try some free Slackware torrents, they are usually very fast.http://slackware.com/getslack/torrents.php [ The Slackware Linux Project: Get Slack ]

Andreasvb
Seems they limit you based on the time, then?Or too many use the connection in your area at same time.
