r00ted
in the google desktop thread (use the search, for google desktop, or GDS, or similar), someone mentioned getting the access error when running two instances of µTorrent, would it be a good idea to only allow one instance in the processes list at a time? 1c3d0g
I recall some people insisting on being allowed to run multiple instances of µTorrent...now some people are complaining that it gives them errors. Bah! You can never please everyone...
Ultima
Hmm? I thought one instance is allowed? I thought you have to use a shortcut parameter (don't remember which one) to open a second instance of µTorrent...
slayers
There are some situations where running two instances of uTorrent is a great idea. If there could be problems, well, isn't there always...? I mean, getting your system to do what you want requires some planning, I wouldn't prohibit this just because of potential issues on specific setups. I believe the benefits far weigh out the risks. DutchDude
Problems are partially avoided if the data/config is not stored in the registry/user profile, but in a file in the same dir in which uTorrent resides. Having 2 instances running would then only mean that as long as they are in 2 seperate dirs they would be running parallel. I think it is even possible to get the pathname from a starting/running process, then warn if it was started from the same path as an allready running instance of uTorrent, thus avoiding most problems. It's just a thought though, i do not miss this feature
chaosblade
You can do exactly that, have two .exe files in different places with different .dat files in the same place. Im not sure how the application behaves exactly on that matter though, never needed to run a torrent client twice Oo
jroc
^^ I just thought of a good use for it: DHT on & DHT off. I might be wrong, tho.(uh oh, some folks who want that DHT per torrent feature gonna be mad at me if this can be done....lol)
