Encanto
Out of the blue, an "Access Denied" error keeps popping out from my uTorrent on 3 specific video files I'm downloading. What I did was keep restarting them over and over again. Couldn't figure out what was causing it. I thought some of the trackers were blocking me, so I deleted the trackers that were returning errors, but the "Acess Denied" keeps showing up, and I have to restart the torrents again. Then, I remembered that I tried to view the partially finished video files from my uTorrent directory to check out the video content earlier. Maybe Windows Media player somehow locked those files, evenif I already closed the player. What I did was, reboot my pc, restart uTorrent, and the problem went away. No more "Access Denied" popping up.
Zenko
The way I fix this "access denied" torrent issue. Is the following.OS: Windows VistaUtorrent: v1.8.1FireFox3Fresh new version of vista and fresh install of uTorrent, so I tried downloading torrents but got the "access denied" error. Like mention on this topic before this could be "read only" issue. I have set all torrent files to automatically open with uTorrent with firefox, this means when I click a .torrent file on the web it downloads to the windows temp directory and opens with uTorrent.Solution:set the Temp folder uncheck "read only"C:\Users\YOUR*VISTA*USER\AppData\Local\TempAnd make sure the location where your torrent files are going is "uncheck for ready only*.this should fix this issue.Hope this helped

maqk
well I disabled the AV - and really saw a difference in download speedpreviously [with AV enabled] speed was like even below 1 kb/secthis time it went to 15+ kb/sec for quite a while but in the end the same ACCESS DENIED msg - have I to uninstall the AV, then threats are possible i mean is there no way to use uTorrent with symantec or any other AV ?Unisntalled it & PC re started - but same error - FIREWALL is also disabledPLEASE HELP
moogly
Now you have 2 issues: low DL speed with NAV enabled and access denied!Maybe you should configure NAV and add an exception about uT (TCP & UDP).I think it's possible running uT and NAV without having some issues. zab
I had this issue, just registered to tell you guys how i solved it.Vista - First make a new folder called utorrent anywhere you like preferably your destination for the files them selves (i.e Videos, or Mydocuments or whatever) doesn't really matter where, in this folder, make 2 new folders 1 named 'Files', and the other named 'torrents', now right click the utorrent folder - properties - advanced and un-check everything in there. Next open up utorrent click options - preferences - Directories, then check 'Put new downloads in' and point it to the files folder in the utorrent folder, and do the same for the torrents only this time direct them to the torrents folder. Sorted!Xp - near enough the same
jojonono
I Have the same problem with the "Access Denied".Heres the scoopi recently switched from vuze or azurues to utorrent to to vuzes huge cpu and memory requirements when downloading. utorrent was much smaller and therefore i could afford to do more multitasking while downloading. however since i was using vuze i already had .torrents saved in appdata\roaming\azurues\torrents i copied them over to C:\Program Files (x86)\uTorrent and made a torrents file within this file so the entire path was C:\Program Files (x86)\uTorrent\torrents. i allowed them both to run so i could get u torrent to catch up to vuze. then i uninstalled vuze and let utorrent download the remaining parts of the file. for all the files within my torrents file downloaded and work but then i tried updating my rss subscriptions and whenever i tried adding more .torrents they failed to save.. so i looked in the forums and found that there was a 255 word limit to saving the files so i removed the path C:\Program Files (x86)\uTorrent\torrents and changed it to C:\torrents which allowed alot more room. i was now able to save the .torrent file and utorrent recognized them. however when the torrent began to start i would get a popup inidicating that that file could not be downloaded because access was denied. i then proceeded to look on the forums for an answer. i have no non compatible progams that the list indicated and i have set rules for my anti-virius to allow certain functions of utorrent. as i read further i saw that people sovled the problem by adjusting their folder properties to remove the read-only attribute which i did as well as removed indexing from the folders involved with utorrent. i still managed to have this problem over and over again. i decided to un-install utorrent and try again. therefore i rebooted for one last chekc before i did so and then un-installed. this was pointless because i didnt delete any registries so my computer remembered exactly what i had done previously on utorrent so i was at the same point still. nothing seems to work?are there any compatibility problems with utorrent and 64-bit systems? if so is that any way to compensate for it? Firon
Make sure the permissions are set so that µTorrent doesn't need admin permissions to write to the folder. If all else fails, start it as admin and see what happens.
kecskesadam
Hi there everyone.I'd like to ask for help, i've got "Access denied" error. So far everything was OK but I had to change my directory system, I got a new HDD and I copied all my stuff on it. Of course I had to give in uTorrent (1.8.1.1) the new locations of all the torrents one by on, and then re-check the files. After that I'm getting these error messages. I checked the "read-only" option as well, it was active so I desactivated it. Re-check, but it keeps coming: acces denied... Please tell me what did I wrong (I'm pretty sure it was me...), Thank you! PS. Sorry, my mistake : I can't disable the read-only mode on the new drive (Op system : vista), even if it accepts the OK, and then asks for the administrator rights, which i have as far as I know, and I'am OK-ing it, for the next time I open the drive, the read-only remains active... Sorry, I guess it's not for this topic, anyway please tell me hove to do this to solve the other problem. Thank you.
TheJuqhusim
Hey fellas, Look, I'll be honest, I skipped through reading every post because none of it seemed very helpful to me specifically in the first place. Last year I downloaded "Tour de Japon" from some torrent site out there, I don't know which. I used uTorrent, it took like 11 hours, it was perfect, it worked, it downloaded, I could watch it.Since then I've upgraded my entire system, psu, mobo, ram, processor, and my hard drive. So now, I want "Tour de Japon" again, but I get maybe...a minute and a half into downloading it, and "Error: Access is Denied."Now those peopleup there woh said they are noobs have got nothing on me, I don't know how to check my logger, or my tracker or any of these things.I don't have any processes that could hinder the downloading process except my usual messaging clients like skype, ventrilo, steam and xfire...so I don't know...I'm really stuck and nobody else that I've asked has been able to give me an answer, hoping maybe you guys could. HoboChilli
Could this be the cause?http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950106When you run an application on a Windows Vista operating system as a user who is not an administrator, you receive one of the following access error messages when the application calls the StgOpenStorage method:Windows VistaERROR_DIRECTORYWindows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1)STG_E_ACCESSDENIEDThis problem occurs if the program process impersonates a user who is not an administrator.http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/9812d370-e66a-451a-80c9-f028d402d4281033.mspxUnlike previous versions of Windows, both standard users and administrators access resources and run applications in the security context of standard users by default. When any user logs on to a computer, the system creates an access token for the user. This access token contains information about the level of access that the user is granted, including specific security identifiers (SIDs) and Windows privileges. When an administrator logs on, this version of Windows creates two separate access tokens for the user: a standard user access token and an administrator access token. The standard user access token contains the same user-specific information as the administrator access token, but the administrative Windows privileges and SIDs have been removed. The standard user access token is used to start applications that do not perform administrative tasks ("standard user applications").When the administrator needs to run applications that perform administrative tasks ("administrator applications"), this version of Windows prompts the users to change or "elevate" their security context from a standard user to an administrator. This default administrator user experience is called Admin Approval Mode. In this mode, applications require specific permission to run as an administrator application (an application that has the same access as an administrator). When an administrator application is starting, by default a User Account Control message appears. If the user is an administrator, the message gives a choice to allow the application to start or to prevent it from starting. If the user is a standard user, the user can enter the user name and password of an account that is a member of the local Administrators group. When starting uTorrent, if Vista does not prompt you to elevate the security, then the app will run as standard user from the above explanation. So that would mean trying to right click uTorrent icon and selecting "Run As Administrator" to start uTorrent or if uTorrent is using the method mentioned in the KB, the developer should read the KB and find possible solution to have the app notify Vista that it needs to elevate security at start. If another process such as indexing for faster search is running as admin or system privileges, then it would have a higher privilege than standard user, hence uTorrent would probably not be able to write to a file that is locked by a higher privileged account.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931277In Windows Vista, when you try to save a file to a hard disk or to a flash device, you may receive one of the following error messages:Message 1X:\Folder\FileName You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save in the Documents folder instead?Message 2Access to X:\Folder\FileName was denied.I think this KB is just doing a "shotgun" solution. The permissions are messed up because of XP created the NTFS partition with XP's accounts as owner. Vista doesn't know anything about XP's user accounts so it needs admin rights to write to the drive, but uTorrent was started as regular user instead of admin and get access denied. You could take ownership rights for files and folders via Vista or you could just have Vista copy the data to a new Vista formated drive and then format the problem drive and copy everything back which the formating of the drive would have reset the user permissions for Vista instead of XP. The average folks would not know how to manage permissions in Windows because they can be pretty confusing
