BiKICE
I use µTorrent for many years, but now I have a problem. I have updated my utorrent version to 1.7.6. Since then no tracker/hostname could be found. I have tested several versions (even the 1.8 Beta) but no version could find a tracker. The downloads could finish through the DHT-network. But the ALT-downloads have no connection. µTorrent Port Checker says that the port is open (49252). Could anyone help me?THx BiKICEWindows Vista x86T-OnlineGermany (sorry for the english )
DreadWingKnight
What software firewall?
jewelisheaven
Hostname not found suggests you have a problem with DNS. Are you sure your referenced servers haven't changed (if you manually set your network connection)? Verify through your router if you have one ... or try "repair"ing your connection.. that should be under network connections in the new "better" Vista UI. BiKICE
I use Kaspersky Internet Security. I have turned it off even the one from Windows. And I have no problems with Firefox or the Internet Explorer. I don't think that 4 different trackers changed their hostname. Now I have repaired my connection, but nothing changed. Before I updated µTorrent I have nothing changed in the options or my network configuration... THx BiKICEPS: Do you mean the trackers with the "referenced" servers?
jewelisheaven
start->run->cmd->ipconfig /allThose DNS servers are what I mean. Something seems to be interrupting your DNS for uT.. did you have to allow firefox traffic in your KIS?
xpionage
same thing appened to me. as soon as i updated utorrent i always receive that error even if i try to add a torrent from url.my system is ok, all ports are forward correctly. everything was working fine until the update.azureus works fine but i dont want azureus i love utorrent lol
DreadWingKnight
Delete and re-create any rules for uTorrent in your firewalls.Just "turning it off" isn't enough with software firewalls.

DreadWingKnight
Does the problem persist with torrents from http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/ ?
xpionage
Yes.The strange is that the problem started with the upgrade to 1.7.6 but it remained with uninstal or downgrade to 1.7.5 but it works with azureus.
BiKICE
It's the same thing with my µTorrent version. And I don't want to use Azureus...

DreadWingKnight
The problems with OpenOffice torrents indicate a problem on your side, either at your internet provider or in your own settings.Have you at least tried (at least temporarily) uninstalling any software firewalls you have to see if they are indeed blocking? geedub
Had exactly the same problem earlier today and guessed that Kaspersky was my problem even though the firewall was disabled. Turned on firewall, deleted all utorrent rules and I was up and running again.Kaspersky just keeps disappointing me - occasionally the firewall (even though its turned off) will completely block Firefox or IE so I have to enable the firewall, delete the relevant rules and then disable it again. I guess now its getting a taste for utorrent too.
Firon
Kaspersky also doesn't like IPv6, and will freeze up your computer and cause all sorts of odd problems... I dare say it's getting to be as bad as Zone Alarm.
Greg Hazel
Could someone with this problem please try the uncompressed version of 1.7.6?http://utorrent.com/utorrent-1.7.6.uncompressed.exeMy theory is that apps like Kapersky identify UPX 3.02 (which 1.7.6 uses) but do not identify UPX 3.00 (which 1.7.5 uses). BiKICE
Sorry, I have deleted Kaspersky completely... Now I'm using Trend Micro Internet Security Suite. With this µTorrent works very fine.So now I can't test it for you.
hearts_hacker
After downloading http://utorrent.com/utorrent-1.7.6.uncompressed.exe i am able to download. "Hostname not found" error removed....Can any body explain what is the difference..... ?Is there any way using utorrent-1.7.6 directly with Kapersky.... Ultima
Maybe Kaspersky's blocking due to messed up heuristics detection with regards to UPX v3.02?
D-light
Hello, i use Sygate Personal Firewall and updated today to 1.7.6, with exactly the same problem. Thankfully, i found this topic and tried the uncompressed exe. Now i get no more "hostname not found" errors. Utorrent couldn't also reach the update server when i tried to update it again. Thanks very much for the tip. Tho I bet many more people are having these problems and unaware of the solution.edit: for more infoI run Windows 2000firewall: Sygate Personal Pro 5.
