file->add torrent cases utorrent to crash

When I try to open a torrent file using the file->add torrent utorrent closes without any exit dialog. I've tried reinstalling utorrent to correct the problem but it doesn't fix anything. The only way to correct the problem is to launch utorrent as administrator using the "run as" command.

I'm using windows XP sp2 and utorrent 1.7.7.

Any help would be appreciated as this is happening to other programs as well.

I think you've answered your own question. Log off and log in as Administrator. Control Panel, User Accounts. Change your regular user so it has Administrator access. That will let you access the files µTorrent needs to change to work properly.

my regular account is already an administrative account, i have to run utorrent under "Administrator" for utorrent to not crash when i use the file->add torrent. That is i have it set up to run with different credentials (right click->properties->advanced->run with different credentials) and when i run with user name "Administrator" everything works but i have to log in every time i run utorrent.

That's very strange -- if your "regular account" is an administrator, you wouldn't need to run with different credentials for Administrator access. Here are some ideas...

1) Try creating another test user with Administrator access and add a torrent. If that works, that would suggest your "regular account" does not have 100% Administrator access.

2) Ignore the situation , and use psexec to run as Administrator whenever you launch µTorrent:

3) Uninstall µTorrent, remove any left-over µTorrent related files, and re-install of µTorrent

It's not that utorrent doesn't work. I can open utorrent, add torrents by dragging and dropping, and files download.

Whenever utorrent goes looking for a file it crashes. For example i open utorrent and go to file->add torrent the program crashes. When i add a drop a torrent file into utorrent and click the "..." button utorrent crashes.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling utorrent and deleting all associated files. If my account didn't have complete administrative access I'd expect a dialog saying such.

I've been using azures as a work around but i really like utorrent better when it worked right.

It might be a windows problem but i'm not sure how to start looking for that.

Depending on where you run uT from... local hard drive, external drive, network share... one of those security programs could be doing it.

To be thorough could you edit that post with the Process Explorer DLL list for utorrent.exe too?

Can you try turning them off one by one?? If there were more reports of the Logitech suite I'd finger that first, as there are several "input handlers" which cause uT crashes... MouseImp among them.

Additionally I don't recall MSACM32.dll Microsoft ACM Audio Filter Microsoft Corporation 5.01.2600.2180 being standard :/ uT may load it when you play the THX sound.....

how do you turnoff the dll files?

i killed apoint and just to be sure rebooted, but that didn't fix the problem.

also there are other programs running in the background so could that be the MSACM32.dll?

Either by disabling the offending software, or using unlocker since PE can't unload DLL's.

-APTRRNTm.dll does utorrent to crash and generates a dump file that i can include

-APTRRNTl.dll does nothing

detoured.dll does nothing

-lgscroll.dll tracks to logitechs set point folder and crashes utorrent when unloaded (the send error report to microsoft type crash different from APTRRNTl.dll crash)

-TRUserDLL.dll does not track to system 32 but to the program folder for Replay Music but disabling it doesn't solve the problem

-wxvault.dll does nothing

To unload dll files i go to the dll right click->unlocker then select utorrent and click unlock then try the file->open torrent. by this point utorrent has crashed so it is restarted and a new dll is tried.

I found the problem now i just need help fixing it.

The problem seems to be with this file called aclayers.dll (v 5.1.2600.2180 and is a Windows compatibility dll). So now i just can't delete the thing. That is i delete it but it comes back....so...help

the APTRRNTm.dll file crashes utorrent when i unlock it/turn it off.

if i launch utorrent right after i delete aclayers.dll everything works, but after 5 sec windows puts it back.

Also the aclayers file is the only file that utorrent uses that is exclusively shows up with other programs i've been having similar problems with. I think it would work if i could swap it for an older version, or delete it all together. This assumes that the file isn't corrupt but i can't find where windows keeps the corrupt backup.

If you think it's corrupted, START > RUN > "SFC /scannow" will check system files, pop in your install disk first, this way it'll copy missing files. If you patched anything, like UXThemes for example, you might have to reapply it. Since it's a system file your accusing, I'd try Win Update.

Says the APTRRNTm.dll is a part of installation of replayRadio, a software that can help you record streaming audio. Uninstall the software and restart. Confirm DLL is gone, then re-install the software. The re-install with the DLL gone should put a uncorrupted DLL back. I don't recall APTRRNTm.dll being a Windows file although it may be placed into c:\windows\system32 by a third-party installer.

I did the sfc /scannow and the scan finished without further report. I uninstalled the program that uses APTRRNTm.dll and deleted the file. neither fixed the problem.

I can get utorrent to work properly if i delete ACLAYERS.dll and before windows replaces it start utorrent. I have the PE reports for both the working and not working conditions and will post both if it helps.

So these other DLLs ... do they still cause a crash when you use unlocker to unload them? In all cases your issue is definitely something which I'd think they'll try to work around if possible, but the culprit and a viable .DMP file I think would need to be found.

If you've got process explorer DLL lists where uT DOES and DOES NOT close that would definitely point out the injected DLLs which are common to both
