AFLunatic
Ok, I've been browsing on many different forums about this problem. About 1 minute after I load uTorrent, my mouse will begin to lag and every process on my computer will begin to drastically slow down to a point where I can barely use my computer.. If I close uTorrent the problem goes away. My cpu usage is constantly spiking to 100%. I've tried deleting uTorrent + %AppData% directory, I've tried uninstalling all anti virus software as well as Malwarebytes, I've tried downgrading to an older version of uTorrent. Nothing seems to work. All of my info is below. Please let me know if anyone has had a similar issues with a fix. Thanks.Process Explorer:--------------------------------------------------------------------Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.3 (BETA)Scan saved at 2:01:37 PM, on 5/1/2010Platform: Unknown AFLunatic
Seems like your post worked for a few people, unfortunately not for me. I tried your settings exactly, and it still lags. I'm out of options.. I'm gonna have to kick uTorrent which is something I absolutely did not want to do. Thanks for your help anyway.

Firon
Holy crap, your drivers are using a ton of CPU. It's hard to debug that on Vista/7, since RATTV3 no longer works on 64bit systems...Are you using wireless? USB networking? USB HDD? Anything else of note? RAID? AFLunatic
I'm using a direct connection to my ethernet port from a wireless bridge (Linksys WRT54G DDWRT fw)..No wireless PCI cards, No USB HDD's or network cards.Edit: So, you mentioning the drivers got me to try something.. I disabled my AGP Graphics card and rebooted.. No more lag while running uTorrent. Only problem now is I can't use the graphics card. Not a big deal, not my primary PC. Thanks for the help. AFLunatic
Firon, yes it's all old hardware but I assure you the drivers are up to date. I've spent a lot of time on this problem and cannot narrow it down.. It's beyond my comprehension. I've tried everything in my power to get it fixed. jEaseUs_
Ok wild guess here But is your HDD DMA enabled ? this was a common problem long ago thus on old(er) hardware (but WinXP too) and Windows can turn DMA off if it detects some sort of HDD problems (not just bad sectors I guess)I know it's silly of me to assume it isn't enabled, but may be worth a check. You can look in Device Manager -> IDE/ATA?ATAPI controllers ATA Channel 0 (and 1 afterwards) -> Advanced Settings, and should say something like Ultra DMA Mode 5 or something other than PIO (I guess PIO (programmed I/O ?) which is aka DMA off). This might differ depending on your windows and I don't know how it works for SATA HDDs that aren't seen as IDE or something... Maybe you can use other information programs to get this DMA info. But if you have small internet speed (thus not much read/write going on) and if DMA off for HDDs then you shouldn't have that much CPU usage Maybe there are other DMAs to check too, ie. network card DMA is it on? (I guess in win7 this cmd:netsh int tcp show globalwill give you something like NetDMA State : enabledif it's on)
AFLunatic
Thanks for all the input. After disabling uPnP & NAT-PMP the problem completely vanished. After hitting 'apply' I watched the cpu usage fall to nearly 5%. I'm stumped on why that is, but I can tell you it worked. 2 days and the problem hasn't been back. Thanks to everyone who responded. jEaseUs_
Wow that's amazing! Good to know you fixed it. Jen.L
Hello everyone, Jen.L, newly registered user here [ no kidding, registered @ 10/may/2010 ]Anyways, i ought to give my input into this issue of 100% cpu usageSome computer specs :- Dell Studio 1555, ATI 4650 card. ( But don't think any more is necessary as i address later )- Windows 7 Ultimate. ( Highly tuned from viper's windows 7 services )Now on to the nitty gritty detail and why i felt obliged to register and post this.I've noticed that I get reproduce exact 100% cpu usage just be doing the following.: Opening safari 4.05 for windows.followed by utorrent ( build is 2,01 19248 )Apparently, there is either a bug on Utorrent's or Safari 4'sAnd i've a hunch, that its Safari 4's blazing javascript engine, Nitro, thats the cluprit. But this is entirely based on my own system findings. Anyone able to verify using XP, vista and then Windows 7?( No VMware please, for AFAIK, certain drivers ain't loaded)Cheers =D[ After some trying ]Looks like i'm still able to reproduce such issue of 100% cpu usage. But heres the interesting aspect to this huge joke.If i've opened Utorrent first, before opening safari 4, everything would load normalYes, you've read it right, theres a certain order into making such a issue. Thus, Open utorrent first----> then open Safari 4 = no problemsBut, Open Safari 4 first ----> then open Utorroent = 100% cpu usage.P.S I've tried the above "remedies" for cpu 100% usage after reproducing this problem, doesn't work. That includes unchecking UPnP and NAT port mapping.Hope my post can provide some useful information Cheers Yet again lmao.

Jen.L
@rafi : Guess i need to stand corrected for some misinformation. After testing several times ( before trying your solution), i found it not as simple as to reproduce the symptoms as i've mentioned. Apparently, its only if the conditions are met :2 safari 4 windows opened ( Alt+I, then Alt + O which open last closed windows) with 5 tabs or more....sometimes 2 tabs...... :/and its not even funny how even after testing several times, 3 its locks as mentiones and close everything and then it works....( not tempering of settings on anything whatsoever)Guess it how windows 7 is engineeredBut really thanks about the reply,i did went through the solution, and stated it didn't work. So i might be a memory leak or something from safari 4......just plain weird : /
