hofshi
Just saw the new joke on the main page.If you haven't seen it yet, this is your chance http://www.utorrent.com/
1c3d0g
It's not a joke. :| That's why Ludde's been so busy lately (and it explains the lack of Beta builds)...he's almost completely rewritten the client in Java, so it's all good.
Animorc
I really appreciate that. So this will be the approach for the linux port?
1c3d0g
Yes, indeed. This will also speed up the Web GUI implementation, since it's been dragging along at a slow pace, unfortunately. :/

hofshi
I'm guessing that the Java is only intended for non-windows platforms, right?
Animorc
Why would that be? Java for all platforms will reduce the amount of time developing µTorrent.Think about it: Programming in both languages would much more timeconsuming. We might actually see that a Java-application can use even less than 50 MB on startup. It's really exciting.
hofshi
do you actually think that a Java version for windows may be more efficient then the current one?!
Animorc
Since the Java functions differs from the C++ ones, coding in both languages would be eextremely unnecessary. I wouldn't want further development to be delayed only because of that. But no, I don't think it would be more efficient from a resource-POV, but it would be more efficient from other angles. Ultima
Yes, indeed. This will also speed up the Web GUI implementation, since it's been dragging along at a slow pace, unfortunately. :/It's likely to be released tomorrow, actually.

Ultima
Heh I didn't notice that mIRC wasn't auto-scrolling on #utorrent (for some odd reason or another), so I never saw Directrix's announcement in #utorrent. I only saw the message in the other channel =P
Vectorferret
It is actually possible to compile Java to run directly in the OS, mabye there is the generic java codebase and then an extra file and some minor changes to make a directly compiled one. Directly compiled Java shouldn't have any significant speed problems over C++.Personally, I still think this is a joke though.
