Timwi Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 It would be nice if it was possible to add and remove webseed URLs from a torrent manually. Perhaps have a new tab specially for webseed URLs, where you can add/remove easily? Thanks!
Ultima Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 Hm. Just curious: is your ISP limiting your HTTP downloads or something?
Timwi Posted August 16, 2007 Author Report Posted August 16, 2007 No, why? I'm not sure how that relates to my post.
Ultima Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 Because it doesn't make sense how you want to treat a webseed any differently than you would a normal peer. A webseed is, for all intents and purposes, a NORMAL seed that just happens to be on a regular web server.
Ryan Norton Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 Except webseeds are actually IN the torrent itself. It is already in 1.8 either way...
Timwi Posted August 17, 2007 Author Report Posted August 17, 2007 Ultima: Your comment makes sense in the context of certain other postings of mine, but surely not this one. If I have a torrent, and then I have another HTTP URL for the same file, why shouldn't a normal user be able to add it?
Firon Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 1.8 will allow you to edit webseeds (and probably support multi-file torrents, too).
Ultima Posted August 19, 2007 Report Posted August 19, 2007 and probably support multi-file torrents, tooNot just probably -- it already does
hermanm Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 To take this idea a little further, if I add a URL in the web seed form box, that URL would automatically propagated through Peer Exchange. So, this way the original torrent does not have even have to contain a web seed. Any human peer could add a URL and make it another peer that can seed.
DreadWingKnight Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 Considering how little people actually need the webseed, and how little they're actually used when they are present, I would recommend against DoSing the webservers with requests by spreading that information.
jewelisheaven Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 Webseeds don't have to be on the root. If you only use the peer information you'd get at BEST IP:port or domain:port... not the relative path structure, which doesn't make it quite as useful. I don't think Webseeds are passed via PEX but I may be wrong. Heck I've only used one webseeded file (aside from wow patches I used wowtorrentex to use my favourite client uT instead of their bloated leaky p.o.s.)... and that was to help bittorrent, inc. fix their site.
Ultima Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 @hermanm: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=297799#p297799alus already told you that he'd consider it...
hermanm Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 LOL, you caught me! I know I'm not supposed to ask for features on ALPHA. Sorry.
