DreadWingKnight
The two questions (thread title and post content) are two different questions.uTorrent is as legal as a web browser.
jewelisheaven
non sequitur. How is any bittorrent client legal. The protocol is legal and ingenious as exhibited from the many content providers now using it in partnership with BitTorrent, Inc. and others who don't to distribute their content. (Prime example is Blizzard Inc. whose own Blizzard Downloader is based upon an older version of the free python client)If you were attempting to flame/troll you fail. Ultima
Just because something is copyrighted doesn't mean it's automatically illegal to share either. It depends on the laws of the country you're residing in (whether they acknowledge and/or do anything about copyrights), and whether the copyright holder gave permission for the file to be distributed in the manner in which it is being distributed. shawf
Same as "How is money legal? I can pay for under-age prostitute.", "How is knife legal? I can kill someone with it!"
Saribro
Nothing beats the trusted car analogy:Driving faster than the speed limit is illegal. -> How are cars legal?
ICleolion
Well he has certainly inspired a lot of responses for a stupid question.
ciper
This is a great thread. It gave me many useful analogies for similar stupid questions. Keep it coming!I personally believe Mister Rogers has us all beat. He essentially single handedly kept VCRs from becoming illegal http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mister_rogers#Mister_Rogers_and_the_VCR
jewelisheaven
Fred Rogers was a great man and showed that public television is what the USA needs to keep its children from growing up without some grounding in "reality". I applaud this thread in its proof that the maintainers of uT are not bad or untenable people and even allow inanity like this on their forums.Btw, I made a new question: How is strip mining the earth past viability for the future legal?
