ExtremeS
Would it be possible for uTorrent 1.8 to support UDP trackers? Most of the major torrent programs support it so I don't see why uTorrent shouldn't...
Firon
Because the UDP tracker spec is a poorly designed idea that no one uses (precisely because it's terrible).
DreadWingKnight
That, and there's a feature freeze on 1.8 as well, but it's not going to happen after that either.

jewelisheaven
I understand your view, but they've said this repeatedly. UDP will not be implemented unless BT, Inc. moves a mountain.I think you'd be more interested in the changes coming in 1.9 anyway
hermanm
Funny how RC2 just added two features. If UDP tracker support will not be implemented in µTorrent, more reason to have staggered updates for the same tracker across multiple torrents running. ExtremeS
tpb, demonoid and many other trackers support it, maybe it's poorly designed but the p2p community surely isn't going to throw it awat just like that...
Switeck
If uTorrent adds support for it, I can almost promise we'll get more posts concerning problems with marginal routers and modems. LOTS of networking software and hardware do not handle any appreciable level of UDP packets nicely.
The8472
DHT uses UDP too, and it works perfectly fine for 9x% of the people, not to mention that it causes significantly more udp traffic to more destinations.
Ultima
Indeed, it does, and that's exactly why we sometimes need to tell users to disable DHT when they find that their Internet connection is becoming unreliable while running µTorrent. That said, I don't think the use of UDP in-and-of itself would be a problem with UDP trackers -- it's not like communication with trackers take place often enough for routers to die out of sheer packet volume. Firon
DHT screws a lot of routers (lot more than just a few people), but I don't think the amount of UDP traffic that this would generate would be enough to cause problems.
