Fuzzier Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 I don't want uTorrent to be installed in C:, is there any way to install it in D:.Or as it used to be, don't perform such suspicious action.Or give uTorrent a real home by providing us an installer.Thanks.
rafi Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 yes. take the exe and just put it where-ever you like ...and.. post a feature request to ask the user in this pseudo installer where does he likes to install to ...
DreadWingKnight Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 If you want it somewhere else, say "no" when it asks you if you want it to install itself and then put it where you want it.
McoreD Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 Last time I tried to show µTorrent to a friend. Downloaded the exe and saved in C:\Standalone\uTorrent. As soon as I double clicked the EXE, it disappeared from there and moved to C:\Program Files\uTorrent without asking me I tell ya. This was a Beta build of uTorrent by the way. The only way to stop it was, manually moving settings.dat etc files to where uTorrent is and then relocating. It never happened to me because I always had it with settings.dat etc files since version 1.6.1.
Ultima Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 It doesn't, and never has, move itself automatically. It moves itself only if you confirm the install.
Invy Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 mcored, yep same thing I was wondering a few weeks ago or so, why it would move itself to program files upon executing it. it was only with one of the 1.7.x beta builds. It doesn't do it anymore with the current 1.7.2.
Ultima Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 O.oI've used practically every single beta build, and have never had a problem with it moving to Program files without my permission...
Invy Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 then how do I make it ask me if I want to move the exe to program files? i don't think i've seen that message before.is it like a run-once only thing or something?
Firon Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 If the filename (and location) is unchanged, it won't ask again.
Invy Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 ahh ok thanks for the quick response. I figured it was something like that.
Ryan Norton Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 It checks the modification time of the .exe - it won't ask again until that changes. The difference here is that on Vista, even if you move or copy the file it may preserve the modification time; so on Vista it could be more "difficult" to get it to ask you again.EDIT: removing settings.dat will cause it to always ask either way...
