Re: µTorrent 1.8.2 released

- Change: add bt.transp_disposition value (3) for uTP-only

what is the value for the standard support for both uTP & TCP  ?

Re: µTorrent 1.8.2 released

1 no ?

Is there a reason why the filename of uT 1.8.2 is not utorrent.exe but utorrent-1.8.2.upx.exe ?
Mistake in renaming ?

Re: µTorrent 1.8.2 released

I've just installed it and it was 0 as default... !? why do we have to guess... it's simpler to just write it down at the first post here (0/1/2/3=...)

Re: µTorrent 1.8.2 released

uTP: read here in the 1.9 alpha forum http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=49813 about it.

How to enable and disable it:
Preferences > Advanced, set bt.transp_disposition to:
255 - both TCP and uTP (default)
10 - uTP only
5 - TCP only

It is 255 in 1.9 by default, 0 in 1.8.2 (read that too http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php … 46#p378146 ) so Rafi should know it already wink

shnur: it I knew what's the deal here on 1.8.2 -  I wouldn't ask.... do YOU know ? so, 0 = 255 ok. 3 = 10 , and the "5" (TCP only) ?  ... wink

Re: µTorrent 1.8.2 released

Interesting...I've upgraded to 1.8.2 and set bt.transp_disposition to "3" with encryption enabled and incoming legacy connections allowed.

I am on a University network which is 5Mb/s up and down. However, the University network is throttling bittorrent traffic and I get very consistent speeds capped at 90KB/s up and down. With the new client and said config changes I am now maxing out my upload speed (5Mb/s). However, my download speed is only about 1Mb/s. This could simply be due to poor swarm speed though. It appears that using uTP defeats my university traffic shaping.

Now, that may sound just great, but what if every other resident here was also able to defeat the University's traffic shaping? Am I correct that the way uTP works is that regular TCP traffic (the majority of activity) will take priority and not be slowed down? If so, this is great news because the "wasted" bandwidth will be used when it can while not impacting regular academic and other real-time use.

Re: µTorrent 1.8.2 released

I don't think there is such thing as uTP (which is UDP...) priority on a public network. You can control it only on your own PC. And why don't you just try to use 1.9 instead ? ...

Re: µTorrent 1.8.2 released

Seems like I get loads more Teredo connects on this client than 1.8.1

Re: µTorrent 1.8.2 released

Hi!

Got a crash dump when trying to install latest build over version 1.8.1. It crashed after installation, but it seemed to have copied itself into the uTorrent folder under C:\Program Files. Nevertheless it started running afterwards from the download folder.

Best regards,

Re: µTorrent 1.8.2 released

Yeah, looks like there's a problem with the latest build. I've reverted the exe to 14153.

Re: µTorrent 1.8.2 released

Big dissappointment with 1.82. First off downloads had trouble passing 200 kB/s, switched back to 1.81 and went straight up to 600 kB/s. Also wouldn't save changes to limit upload speeds.

Re: µTorrent 1.8.2 released

Ok, then, in this moment, the 1.8.2 uTorrent download links to 14153? No new build for now until the bug will fix, no?

Re: µTorrent 1.8.2 released

Can't you read ? Firon just said they reverted back to build 153 due to problems... And to your issue  - maybe one of your RSS feeds/filters downloads it ?

edit: just got this debian here too...
edit2: GFree- the first 'question' was aimed at those commenting about the "old" build #...

Yep. Check this, and the image below.

Re: µTorrent 1.8.2 released

But why file version of "2009-02-02: Version 1.8.2 (build 14442)" show this: "FileVersion 1.8.2.14153" ?

Re: µTorrent 1.8.2 released

I have just re-installed windows and downloaded the 153 version of uTorrent and it is still trying to download debian-40r6-i386-CD-1.iso. If you don't want it to keep downloading until there is a fix, just do as what I have as shown in the image below.

I also got debian-40r6-i386-CD-1.iso in my list.

Did not work. Tried twice.
It even adds itself on restart even if I try to delete it. Fucking virus sad

Re: µTorrent 1.8.2 released

It's not a virus... it was my screwup. I uploaded a build with the debian torrent bundled. I've replaced it with the correct executable now, and it's still 14153 that's uploaded right now.

The bundling feature still needs a little tweaking, but it will be open for anyone to use once it's finalized.
The .torrent bundling needs changing so that it always shows the Add torrent dialog, much like it does now for btsearch URLs.
It will not open you to security exploits by malicious URLs being bundled, no more than opening a regular torrent with bad files at least.

A full guide will be put up later detailing how it works and how to use it. People will be able to bundle btsearch URLs, RSS feeds, and .torrents files. Only one URL though.

The bundled URL will be scrubbed from the exe when you use the installer, so relaunching later wouldn't reload a removed torrent. It doesn't do it when running in-place, though.

That being said, does anyone have any concerns about the bundling?

1.9 will have it as well, though the last alpha for it doesn't have the feature yet.

Why not upload build 14442, as it is the latest version?

Re: µTorrent 1.8.2 released

It was rolled back due to a large number of crash dumps piling in. We're investigating it now.
