µTorrent 3.3 beta

Firon

Recommended Posts

This is a beta (expect bugs!) of µTorrent 3.3, where we've rewritten some pretty major, problematic sections of code. The biggest of these rewrites was disk i/o, to improve overall performance at both low and high speeds, whether writing to local disk, a RAID or a network drive.

Please try it out and report any issues. As I mentioned before, this is an alpha, so there could be hangs, crashes or other problems.

Download the new version now!

Release highlights:

  • Disk I/O system completely rewritten. Now multi-threaded and high performance. It will take advantage of multiple disks, perform better with even just one, and no one disk job can block everything (e.g slow network blocking local I/O, or allocating files)
  • Search items in Advanced preferences
  • Paired device removal

Great! (and saving a spot at the top... just in case...)

Edit:

The biggest of these rewrites was disk i/o, to improve overall performanc

No mention of this anywhere in the changelog... Are you sure it is in *this* release ? ... :P

Back to 27138

Why?... ;)

Because 27147 worked fine for 1 hour then begin to crash just after every restart.

Try new "install"/settings. (blank settings.dat) .

Maybe next time' date=' now I can't.

It's only alpha stage :)

I know that and I sent the dump, but sometime I need to dl something. :P

"error: invalid download state' date=' try resuming.."

"error:handle is invalid"

^This happened right after the upgrade from 3.2 beta (27138)[/quote']

Back to 27138 and everything works fine now.

Did you try rechecking them?

Yes. :P It just doesn't have a changelog entry, as it was a really large item.

Try new "install"/settings. (blank settings.dat) .

The same after deleting the setting.dat/settings.dat.old (just installed 27150):

http://www.filedropper.com/utorrent_3

It's an alpha, so crashes are to be expected.

I know that, but it crashes every time before end to load all the torrent file (~1100).

But that would be not a criticism, only a notification.

I know it runs for a while with stock settings, but yeah.

If you submit them when the client asks, we DO get them.

Sorry, my bad English can't permit me to understand what you mean.

Oh, 1000 torrents crashes it? That's actually good to know. We've only really tested 3.3 with just a few torrents.

Anyway, I know it's not a criticism. We do appreciate you testing it :) I was just telling you that the "submit crashdumps to dev" feature actually goes to us. ;) Though I like when people post it on the forums too, since sometimes rare crashes are lost in the noise otherwise.

Back to 27138 and everything works fine now.

Did you try rechecking them?

Recheck was failing.

new 27150 build fixed that problem.

But now I've noticed major bugs around new "labels and directories" feature.

Will explain in the following post.

labels and folders:

there are several bugs, but I'll explain them separately

1. "default" labels cannot be renamed, or deleted from the column on the left, once the feature "labels and folders" was triggered - on/off. Even after you disable it - labels stay.

also, now I have corrupted name in label, i don't know how, but it appeared only after I played with this new feature.

see screenshot

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/61108/Untitled.png

2. if you happen to delete the default labels first with [-] - then you won't be able to delete defaults paths afterwards.

You need to re-create the labels again to match the path below to delete the path...

Mostly the fact that I can't remove those labels (see screenshot) bugs me the most.

I think I'll withdraw my joy, this version does not work. :)

When one or more of the file is "do not download", appears in the "Status" bar at the message "The specified path does not exist". Although all files are selected, still does not download anything.

Firo, fix to show Created by : to preview the full version example: utorrent 3.3 (27000), rtorrent (1.0.1)

Also if torrent is already getting a speed and you put some limit of up, downloading speed going down with upload speed. This is a stupid!

Better peering with libtorrent/rtorrent. Fastest connection to the users as possible! Raising a speed as fast as possible ( in my settings bt_connect_speed is set to 4 ) but i don't know is this enough.

How i said in some of my previous post a lot of ppl don't know how to backup their settings, so one button for export/import will be more than a great.

For now this is like requirements.
