1.8.1 Release Candidate 1 (build 12549)

µTorrent will never exceed the half-open limit now. Furthermore, the crash on Vista has finally been resolved!

We've worked around the NOD32 issue, but it's still a nasty bug in NOD32 2.5/7 and you should really not use IMON, as the issue could potentially affect any program.

The update tracker restriction has been relaxed when the announce fails. If the announce fails for any reason, you'll only have to wait 60 seconds to do manual update tracker again, instead of whatever the min interval actually was.

If you have a crash, run the uncompressed build and upload the dump files to www.mediafire.com

Wee! Here we go again! big_smile

And yes, I can verify first hand that the hashing is much faster -- my tests indicated at least 33% faster, but of course, YMMV. The optimization applies only to Windows 2000+.

Re: 1.8.1 Release Candidate 1 (build 12549)

Troubleshooting is to be done in separate threads.

No more monolithic threads.

FAQ and Search
Use them.

Chances are, I'm not in the mood for runarounds. If guides ask for info. Provide it before I have to ask for it.

This thread won't become huge, even if troubleshooting happens here. 1.8.1 won't be beta for that long.

How'd you guys manage that? I've been using TeraCopy to copy files faster between drives. Did you guys employ some sort of caching read-ahead system for faster hashing?

Re: 1.8.1 Release Candidate 1 (build 12549)

1/2 as much CPU usage... in practice, your hashing speeds won't improve, but the CPU usage will improve. Even when downloading.

^^Change: remove "Download Limited" behaviour

Why?

Also, can you please fix queue.dont_count_slow_dl / queue.dont_count_slow_ul, it's not working. I have seeding torrents that don't download/upload at all, but they are still counted in queue and are blocking other queued torrents.

They only work if you don't have seeding tasks have higher priority enabled.

Re: 1.8.1 Release Candidate 1 (build 12549)

@hermanm: The only reason that is the case is that disk IO is the bottleneck here for hashing.

Re: 1.8.1 Release Candidate 1 (build 12549)

@Firon

I would still consider that a bug as it's rather pointless otherwise. Not enabling "Seeding tasks have higher priority" isn't an option with private trackers, it's almost a guarantied ban.

If the tracker bans you for not seeding torrents without any demand, then they don't deserve your traffic.

Firon, I would suggest posting in the first post of this topic the goals you want to achieve for ut 1.8.1. It could minimizes people's requests here, instead of requesting in the adequate category, and we could know what to expect from the next version.

Re: 1.8.1 Release Candidate 1 (build 12549)

Can we have a tweak to the way uTorrent "finds" that network drives are disconnected on logon/startup. Currently I have to go into explorer, open the shared drive, then I can press start in uTorrent.

Thanks, i'm happy to see more uTorrent betas to try out!
I was saying in the 1.8 beta threat, that there will be 1.8.1 beta for use, but nobody agreed... And now there's a 1.8.1 beta.

NOTE Regarding Web UI Passwords
Because passwords are now hashed before comparison with the data stored in settings.dat, old passwords will need to be set again from Preferences > Web UI in order for Web UI to work again.

Re: 1.8.1 Release Candidate 1 (build 12549)

Because it was pointless without the support of other clients.

Ultima, the build I'm gonna post soon will hash old 1.8 passwords on upgrade.

can you remind me - what is this "Download Limited behavior" anyways ? it being dependent on your upload limit ?

Re: 1.8.1 Release Candidate 1 (build 12549)

When you set your global upload between 1 and 5 kbyte/s, it capped your download. Same for per-torrent caps of 1 to 3 kbyte/s.
